Volusia Civic Ballet’s ‘The Nutcracker’ Returns for the Holiday Season
IMage: Volusia Civic Ballet Webpage
The Volusia Civic Ballet’s annual “The Nutcracker” will return to Daytona Beach's Peabody Auditorium with three performances on December 7 and 8. This year’s production includes guest artists from Cincinnati Ballet and features over 70 local performers. Ticket prices range from $25 to $45, with an additional $25 for children’s tickets to the whimsical Sugar Plum Tea, a pre-show event with treats and Nutcracker character photo ops.
For a family-friendly option, a one-hour narrated Family Series show on December 7 presents scenes from Act I and Act II, ideal for young children and special-needs audiences. The Peabody lobby will echo the holiday spirit, designed as a German village with a Nutcracker gift shop and an online silent auction.
For tickets and more details, visit the Peabody Auditorium’s website.
Evening on Ormond Beach Turns Deadly as Man Escapes Hatchet Assault
A Volusia County man’s anticipated beach rendezvous took a terrifying turn after he was attacked with a hatchet instead of engaging in a consensual encounter. According to authorities, the victim had agreed to meet 18-year-old Alana Cagle on the beach under the premise of intimacy. However, after expressing discomfort and attempting to leave, he was confronted by Cagle’s 24-year-old boyfriend, Wayne Streeter, who tackled and choked him. Cagle allegedly joined in, striking the man with a hatchet multiple times. The victim managed to escape and alert a nearby deputy, who found him bleeding heavily from multiple wounds. Cagle and Streeter were later apprehended in a vehicle containing blood evidence and the victim's backpack. Both face charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and have since been released on bail.
Volusia County to Provide Free Rides for Voters on Election Day
Volusia County will offer free transportation on Election Day to registered voters using its Votran transit system. To take advantage, riders need only bring a Volusia County voter ID, though polling places without existing Votran stops will require additional planning. Votran’s Gold Service, available to disabled residents, provides direct trips to polling sites, and rides can be scheduled up to November 4 at noon. Residents of select areas, including DeBary, DeLand, Deltona, and Orange City, can use VoRide’s rideshare service for free by entering a promo code shared the Monday before Election Day. All riders must show voter ID to skip the fare. Gold users wishing to schedule a ride should call 386-322-5100 by Monday November 4th at noon.
