Seabreeze Enters Season Opener with Momentum After 16-0 Win

Seabreeze Sandcrabs are heading into their season opener against Spruce Creek with confidence after a commanding 16-0 victory over Titusville Astronaut in a pre-season game on August 16. Under new head coach Mike Klein, the Sandcrabs have shown significant improvement since their spring game defeat, with two months of hard training paying off. Quarterback Zach Voltaire and running back Jeremias George led the offense, while Dylan Hayes scored the final touchdown of the game, dedicating it to his grandfather. The defense, led by Brogan Kelly, kept the War Eagles scoreless. The win highlights the team’s commitment and belief in a new offensive strategy. As they prepare to face Spruce Creek on August 22, Klein recognizes the challenge but remains confident in his team’s readiness to compete.

Crabby Joe’s Reopens in Daytona Beach Shores After Nearly Two Years

Photo: Crabby Joe’s GMB Page

After nearly two years of closure due to Hurricane Ian, Crabby Joe’s Deck & Grill in Daytona Beach Shores has reopened, much to the delight of locals and loyal customers. The iconic restaurant on Sunglow Pier faced extensive damage in 2022, leading to a long rebuilding process that included structural reinforcements and updates to the plumbing and electrical systems. Owner Ray Barshay expressed gratitude for the community’s support, while also celebrating the return of about 75% of the staff, including Danielle Nichols, who has been promoted to service manager. The reopening event drew a large crowd, including 90-year-old resident Stella Bublitz, who has been a devoted patron for decades. Barshay described the day as perfect, with the scenic views and lively atmosphere complementing the restaurant’s return. Crabby Joe’s is now open daily from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. at 3701 S Atlantic Ave.

New Research Finds Rising Cancer Rates Among U.S. Millennials and Generation X

A new study by the American Cancer Society reveals that Generation X and millennials in the U.S. are at a higher risk of developing 17 different types of cancer compared to older generations. Published in The Lancet Public Health, the study shows rising incidence rates of cancers such as breast, pancreatic, and gastric among younger generations, along with increased mortality rates in cancers like liver (in females), uterine, and colorectal. Researchers analyzed data from over 23 million cancer patients and 7 million deaths, comparing cancer rates across birth cohorts from 1920 to 1990. The study highlights significant generational disparities in cancer risk but leaves unanswered questions about the underlying causes, suggesting that social, economic, and environmental factors unique to each generation may play a role.
