Volusia Residents to Enjoy Free Beach Driving; Non-Resident Rates Hiked

Volusia County will stop charging residents for beach access starting October 1, following a recent County Council vote. Residents will receive a free annual pass, while non-resident fees will increase: day passes will rise to $30 and annual passes to $150. The county will implement License Plate Recognition technology for automated access to the beach, with full automation expected by February 2025. This change, part of a broader $4.2 million contract with PCI Municipal Services for off-beach parking, is intended to reduce costs and streamline operations. The policy is a trial that will be evaluated in November 2025. Some council members have expressed concerns about its financial impact.

Ormond Beach Pastor Launches Coalition to Highlight Conservative Candidates

In Ormond Beach, pastor Al Stewart has established the Conservative Citizens of Ormond Beach coalition to assist residents in identifying conservative candidates in local nonpartisan elections. Launched about three weeks ago, the coalition will host a forum on August 8 featuring endorsed candidates Kristin Deaton, Jason Leslie, and Donna Brosemer. The forum will not include their opponents. Although the endorsed candidates are Republicans, Stewart asserts that the coalition is value-driven rather than party-specific. Stewart, with previous local government experience, envisions the coalition eventually producing a voter's guide and promoting ideological transparency.
