💧 Water Smarter, Not Harder

Volusia County has officially switched to its once-a-week lawn watering schedule now that standard time has returned. This seasonal adjustment helps conserve water when grass needs less hydration—because even your lawn appreciates a little downtime.

Here’s the breakdown:

  • Odd-numbered addresses water on Saturdays

  • Even-numbered addresses water on Sundays

  • Businesses get Tuesdays

Watering is only allowed before 10 a.m. or after 4 p.m., and each zone can run for no more than an hour or use up to ¾ inch of water. These rules apply countywide—yes, even if you use a private well. The schedule stays in place until March 8, 2026, when daylight saving time resumes and the two-day-a-week rule returns.

So, mark your calendars, reset those sprinklers, and let the grass nap.

🌊 Planning for Stronger Shores

Volusia County residents got a close-up look at the future of their beaches during recent Coastal Feasibility Study meetings. Nearly 300 attendees explored shoreline protection options—and now the county wants to hear from the rest of you.

Missed the meetings? No worries. All materials, recordings, and a feedback form are available at volusia.org/coastalstudy. The options include a mix of science-based engineering and nature-based approaches—from seawalls and breakwaters to dune enhancements and artificial reefs.

The input window remains open through early 2026, giving you plenty of time to binge the 30-minute overview (or go all in with the 2.5-hour deep dive). Your thoughts will help shape a Beach Management Plan that balances safety, sustainability, and community priorities.

Oh, and a fun fact from the study: Volusia’s beaches drive billions in economic impact and support more jobs than any other local industry. So protecting the shore means protecting your way of life.

🛒 Trader Joe’s Lands in Daytona (Finally)

After years of petitions, dreams, and long road trips to Orlando, Trader Joe’s fans in Daytona Beach finally have a store to call their own. The new location at 1507 Cornerstone Blvd. opened on Nov. 14, drawing nearly 700 enthusiastic shoppers—some of whom lined up before 5 a.m (really?).

Customers from nearby neighborhoods, including Latitude Margaritaville and Ormond Beach, were ecstatic. One superfan, who started a petition back in 2012, even livestreamed the grand opening. From almond butter emergencies to cult-favorite snacks, the excitement was palpable.

Inside, shoppers will find Daytona-themed murals (think “Joeland” and NASCAR cars racing for treats), two turtle mascots named Speedy, and shelves full of Trader Joe’s unique offerings. It’s located between Dave & Buster’s and a soon-to-open HomeSense at Tomoka Town Center, just off the I-95/LPGA Boulevard exit.

Hours of operation are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily, except for holidays when it’ll close early or remain closed.

With this opening, residents are saying they’ve got everything they need in Daytona—pickleball, beach access, and now, peanut butter-filled pretzels within a six-minute drive.
