⛪ First United Methodist Plans Major Redevelopment

First United Methodist Church of Ormond Beach is preparing for a complete campus redevelopment, with groundbreaking scheduled for Sept. 13. The 15- to 18-month project will replace aging buildings with a new two-story facility featuring childcare and children’s ministry areas, multipurpose space, offices and a central courtyard.

The project will also renovate and enlarge the sanctuary, improve accessibility and drainage, add parking and create a small reflective park while preserving the property’s mature trees. Lead Pastor Scott Smith said the redesign will consolidate a campus that developed piecemeal over decades and make it easier for families to navigate. Sunday services will continue throughout construction, with crews adjusting their schedules so the sanctuary can remain available for worship each week.

🎱 Cue Note Breaks Into Ormond Beach

Cue Note Billiard Room is expanding beyond Palm Coast with a new Ormond Beach location at 1140 W. Granada Blvd. The venue celebrates its grand opening Sept. 3 with a ribbon cutting and parking lot party from 4-6 p.m.

Inside, guests will find 15 pool tables, three golf simulator bays — including one offering multiple sports — two soft-tip dart games, billiard league play, a full kitchen and liquor bar. General Manager Celina Polverino said Cue Note aims to provide a polished alternative to the traditional pool-hall atmosphere, with particular attention paid to maintaining its billiard equipment. The venue welcomes guests of all ages most of the week, switching to 21-and-up after 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

🥚 Settlement Sends Free Eggs to Volusia

Nearly 6 million eggs are being distributed to food banks across Florida as part of a nationwide antitrust settlement involving egg pricing. Attorney General James Uthmeier announced that Cal-Maine Foods is providing the state with 5.67 million Grade A eggs, with deliveries that began in July concluding this week.

The eggs are being distributed at no cost to food banks or taxpayers through Feeding Florida’s nine affiliate food banks. Four of the 21 truckloads are allocated to Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida, which serves Volusia along with Brevard, Lake, Marion, Orange, Osceola and Seminole counties. The settlement followed an investigation into egg-pricing benchmarks and also provides Florida with nearly $350,000 for antitrust enforcement and consumer protection.

🌊 Drowning Prompts Beach Safety Reminder

A man died after being found unresponsive in shallow water along the Ormond Beach coast on Sept. 2, according to Volusia County Beach Safety Ocean Rescue.

Lifeguards responded at approximately 12:24 p.m. and began lifesaving efforts after finding the man. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Beach Safety officials said the cause of the drowning was not known at the time of the report. Following the incident, officials reminded beachgoers to swim in front of staffed lifeguard towers whenever possible. Residents and visitors can also use the Volusia Beaches app to check current beach conditions and find staffed lifeguard tower locations before heading into the water.
