❤️ A Teacher's Promise Becomes a Forever Family

What began as a teacher-student connection has become a lifelong family bond. Jackie Coombe, a teacher at Pathways Elementary, officially adopted her former student, 11-year-old Jaden, after a two-year journey through the foster care system. Coombe first met Jaden in her second-grade classroom and later learned he was waiting to be adopted. Determined to help, she began the adoption process and finalized it this June. Since joining his new family, Jaden has received additional speech, occupational and equine therapies while thriving both academically and socially. He recently fulfilled another dream by playing youth baseball in Ormond Beach. Their story is a powerful reminder of the lasting impact educators can have far beyond the classroom.

🏠 Counterfeit Bills Found at Ormond Airbnb

An Ormond Beach vacation rental became the focus of a police investigation after a guest allegedly overstayed their reservation, caused property damage and left behind counterfeit cash. According to police, the homeowner discovered approximately $300 in damage to doors, locks and a fence, along with several fake bills hidden in closets, trash cans and even a toilet. Security cameras reportedly showed numerous people coming and going from the property while an unusually high amount of laundry—estimated at 16 to 17 loads—was being done during the stay. The homeowner has asked police to pursue charges as investigators continue looking into the incident.

⚖️ Warning To Parents…

A Volusia County jury has convicted 56-year-old Timothy Hall of Jacksonville, of attempted kidnapping of a child under 13 and lewd or lascivious exhibition following a 2025 incident at a Daytona Beach business. Prosecutors said Hall exposed himself before attempting to lead a seven-year-old child away from her family. The child alerted others, prompting Hall to flee before he was later arrested. Following a two-day trial, Hall was sentenced to 30 years in prison and will be designated as a registered sex offender upon release. State Attorney R.J. Larizza praised prosecutors and investigators while emphasizing the importance of protecting children from violent predators.

🚓 Southern Slow Down Targets Speeding Drivers

Law enforcement agencies across Florida and neighboring states have launched Operation Southern Slow Down, a high-visibility traffic enforcement campaign aimed at reducing speeding-related crashes and fatalities. Speaking during the kickoff at Daytona International Speedway, Marion County Sheriff Billy Woods shared tragic stories from his years investigating fatal crashes to underscore the dangers of reckless driving. Officers throughout the region will be increasing patrols on highways and local roads through the campaign, with drivers exceeding 100 mph facing arrest under Florida's Super Speeder Law. Officials stressed the goal is not simply issuing tickets, but preventing crashes and saving lives during one of the busiest travel periods of the year.

Jim Taylor Roofing – Four Decades of Local Experience You Can Trust

If your roof needs work, chances are someone in Ormond Beach has already pointed you toward Jim Taylor. He's been roofing for 45 years and became state certified back in 2005 — a lifelong local who's spent decades keeping this community covered, literally.

Jim Taylor, Jr. - Jim Taylor

These days, the business is very much a family affair. Jim handles estimates, his son Jim Taylor Jr. — coming up on 21 years in the trade himself this August — runs the crews, and the office (permits included) is staffed by family as well. It's the kind of setup that keeps a small business running on trust as much as trucks and ladders.

Jim Taylor Roofing handles both flat and sloped roofs, repairs and full replacements, but they've carved out a specialty in mobile home parks, where their experience runs deep. They're also expanding into metal roofing — rib panels are their bread and butter right now, with standing seam next on the list. For beachside homes, aluminum and galvalume are the go-to choices, prized for holding up against salt air and corrosion without rusting.

Like a lot of skilled trades right now, their biggest challenge isn't finding work — it's finding help. If you know someone looking for a solid trade to learn, this could be the crew to talk to.

You can find Jim Taylor Roofing on Facebook, at JImTaylorRoofing.com or reach out directly to Jim at 386-673-5216 for an estimate. Support for local, family-run businesses like this one is what keeps Ormond Beach feeling like Ormond Beach. Please mention Ormond Local Pulse when you call.
