🎒 Tanger Outlets Invites Community to 'Stuff the Bus'
Back-to-school season is just around the corner, and Tanger Outlets Daytona Beach is once again asking the community to help local students start the school year prepared. The annual Stuff the Bus donation drive will take place Aug. 8-9 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with donations benefiting the Boys & Girls Club of Volusia-Flagler Counties. Shoppers are encouraged to bring school supplies, backpacks, clothing and shoes to the collection site located near the H&M and Polo stores. As an added incentive, the first 50 donors each day will receive a free backpack. The annual event provides an easy way for residents to make a meaningful difference for local children as the new school year approaches.

🚀 Late-Night SpaceX Launch Could Be Visible Across Central Florida
Space enthusiasts may want to set an alarm this week as SpaceX prepares to launch a Falcon 9 rocket carrying 29 Starlink satellites into low-Earth orbit from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station on Tuesday, July 14. If weather and visibility cooperate, the launch could be seen from much of Central Florida, including the Daytona Beach area, and potentially as far north as Jacksonville Beach and south to West Palm Beach. Overnight launches often produce especially dramatic views as the rocket illuminates the dark sky and leaves behind a glowing contrail. As always, launch times remain subject to change based on weather and technical conditions.

Flock Camera Poll Results

Several respondents left comments summarized below:
The comments reveal a clear divide over Flock traffic cameras and driver privacy. Six of the 10 respondents supported the cameras, arguing that law-abiding drivers have little to fear and that the technology could help police solve crimes, apprehend suspects, investigate incidents and identify reckless or red-light-running drivers.
Four respondents expressed strong privacy concerns. They described the cameras as a form of “Big Brother” surveillance, warned about the country moving toward a police state and questioned where the collected information is stored or shared. One commenter cited the Fourth Amendment’s protection against unreasonable searches and seizures. Another raised concerns about accuracy and accountability, noting that a photograph of a license plate identifies the vehicle’s registered owner but does not necessarily establish who was driving.
Overall, supporters emphasized public safety and crime prevention, while opponents questioned the routine tracking of people who are not suspected of wrongdoing and the potential misuse of collected data.
Thanks for participating!

Jim Taylor Roofing – Four Decades of Local Experience You Can Trust
If your roof needs work, chances are someone in Ormond Beach has already pointed you toward Jim Taylor. He's been roofing for 45 years and became state certified back in 2005 — a lifelong local who's spent decades keeping this community covered, literally.

Jim Taylor, Jr. - Jim Taylor
These days, the business is very much a family affair. Jim handles estimates, his son Jim Taylor Jr. — coming up on 21 years in the trade himself this August — runs the crews, and the office (permits included) is staffed by family as well. It's the kind of setup that keeps a small business running on trust as much as trucks and ladders.

Jim Taylor Roofing handles both flat and sloped roofs, repairs and full replacements, but they've carved out a specialty in mobile home parks, where their experience runs deep. They're also expanding into metal roofing — rib panels are their bread and butter right now, with standing seam next on the list. For beachside homes, aluminum and galvalume are the go-to choices, prized for holding up against salt air and corrosion without rusting.

Like a lot of skilled trades right now, their biggest challenge isn't finding work — it's finding help. If you know someone looking for a solid trade to learn, this could be the crew to talk to.
You can find Jim Taylor Roofing on Facebook, at JImTaylorRoofing.com or reach out directly to Jim at 386-673-5216 for an estimate. Support for local, family-run businesses like this one is what keeps Ormond Beach feeling like Ormond Beach. Please mention Ormond Local Pulse when you call.
