🏥 AdventHealth Completes Major Daytona Expansion

AdventHealth Daytona Beach has completed a major expansion, adding more than 100 inpatient rooms and significantly increasing specialized care available to Volusia County patients.

The project expands the hospital from 362 to 466 beds and includes a dedicated neuro-ICU, an expanded cardiovascular ICU and Smart Room technology designed to keep patients and families better informed about their care. Four additional surgical suites bring the hospital’s total to 22, while new CT and MRI equipment boosts imaging capacity.

The expansion also includes larger pharmacy, laboratory and sterile processing areas, plus 287 additional parking spaces. With the project complete, the hospital now encompasses nearly 1 million square feet — another major growth milestone for a campus that first opened in 2009.

⚖️ Volusia Drug Court Earns Full Certification

Volusia County Adult Drug Court has earned full certification through Florida’s Problem-Solving Court Certification Program.

The program initially met 187 of 195 required standards during its May review, earning provisional certification while officials addressed the remaining requirements. Following additional work and documentation, reviewers determined the court had achieved compliance with all required Florida Adult Drug Court Best Practice Standards.

Circuit Judges Elizabeth Blackburn and Kathleen McNeilly oversee the program’s east- and west-side operations, respectively. Adult Drug Court serves nonviolent offenders with documented histories of substance abuse through intensive treatment and supervision, with the goal of addressing addiction and reducing future criminal conduct.

The certification is valid for three years, through June 30, 2029.

📷 Recent Investigation Exposes FLock Surveillance Concerns

A recent investigation into the use of Flock Safety’s automated license plate readers has led to arrests, firings, suspensions and investigations involving at least 19 law enforcement employees across five states.

Reporters analyzed more than 75 million Flock searches spanning three-and-a-half years and involving more than 6,300 agencies. The investigation identified hundreds of instances in which individual license plates were searched repeatedly — sometimes thousands of times — including vehicles associated with officers’ former partners, co-workers and family members.

In several cases, police agencies said they were unaware of the questionable searches until contacted by reporters. Among the examples cited, a Sarasota police officer was fired and arrested after allegedly tracking an ex-partner’s vehicle at least 335 times over two months. In Texas, a Lufkin officer was arrested after repeatedly searching seven plates, including one more than 3,400 times.

The investigation also raises broader questions about oversight. Teh investigation found many agencies were not routinely auditing employees’ use of Flock. The company has since introduced an Audit Assistance feature intended to identify unusual activity, such as repeated searches of one plate and late-night queries. Flock says the feature will become mandatory for law enforcement customers by the end of 2026.

At the same time, public scrutiny may become more difficult. Flock changed its audit logs in December 2025 to redact most officer initials, license plates and search justifications. The company says the change protects officers and active investigations, while transparency advocates argue it makes independent oversight significantly harder.
