🔥 Brush Fires Contained Across Volusia County
A tense few days across Volusia County have ended with a collective sigh of relief as multiple fast-moving brush fires are now reportedly contained.
Blazes sparked in several areas, including Daytona Beach and Port Orange, keeping first responders on high alert. One of the more destructive fires ignited Sunday at a campground on Tomoka Farms Road in Daytona Beach. According to officials, between 20 and 30 vehicles were damaged as gusty winds pushed flames rapidly through the area. Fire crews described the blaze as “fast moving,” underscoring how quickly dry conditions can escalate into serious threats.
Meanwhile, another fire near I-95 in Port Orange grew to approximately 10 acres, forcing temporary lane closures between Dunlawton Avenue and State Road 400. The shutdown created traffic delays but likely prevented further danger as crews worked to gain control.
A broad coalition of agencies responded, including Volusia County Fire Rescue, local fire departments, the Florida Forest Service, Florida Highway Patrol, and the Volusia Sheriff’s Office. The state fire marshal was also called to investigate at least one scene.
Thanks to coordinated efforts and improving conditions, containment has been achieved. Still, officials urge residents to remain vigilant during dry, windy weather.

🎨 80 Years of Art & Honor at Ormond Memorial Art Museum
The spotlight now shifts to a celebration of creativity, community, and remembrance in Ormond Beach.
The Ormond Memorial Art Museum and Gardens (OMAM) is marking its 80th anniversary, honoring a legacy that began in 1946 when World War I veteran and painter Malcolm Fraser sought a permanent home for his life’s work. His donation of 56 spiritually themed paintings came with a meaningful condition: the collection would serve as a tribute to veterans.
What began in a modest former law office has grown into a three-story cultural landmark surrounded by lush gardens. Over the decades, the museum weathered internal debates about artistic direction, financial hurdles, and even near-closure. Yet each challenge seemed to strengthen its mission rather than dim it.
The gardens—once a debris-filled ravine—were transformed with community support into a tranquil oasis filled with camellias, bamboo, palms, and ferns. Additions like the iconic peacock fountain and waterfall have made the grounds a favorite backdrop for milestone photos, from proms to proposals.
Today, OMAM continues rotating Fraser’s permanent collection while expanding programming, including Veterans Creative Workshops. Leadership hopes the next 80 years will bring even deeper community engagement—ensuring that art and remembrance remain intertwined at this “verdant jewel” in the heart of Ormond Beach.

🕊️ Rev. Jesse Jackson Dies at 84
And finally, the nation pauses to remember a towering figure in civil rights history.
The Rev. Jesse Jackson has died at the age of 84, leaving behind a decades-long legacy of activism, advocacy, and political influence. His family described him as a “servant leader” whose belief in justice and equality uplifted millions.
Born in 1941 in Greenville, South Carolina, Jackson became active in the civil rights movement during the 1965 Selma marches. He later joined the Southern Christian Leadership Conference under the leadership of Martin Luther King Jr. and was present in Memphis the day King was assassinated in 1968.
Determined that “one bullet” would not end the movement, Jackson went on to found Operation PUSH in 1971 and later the Rainbow PUSH Coalition, championing economic empowerment and human rights. He also ran for president twice in the 1980s, winning several primaries and expanding the political coalition within the Democratic Party.
Ordained in 1968 and awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2000, Jackson also worked internationally to negotiate the release of hostages. Diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2017, he continued advocating for justice in his later years.
He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline, six children, and grandchildren. His family has urged supporters to honor his memory by continuing the work he championed.
