📸 Camera Club Puts Winning Shots in Focus

The Casements Camera Club is putting local photography in the spotlight with the winners of its 46th Annual Show. The competition attracted 44 entries from 33 photographers, with University of Central Florida photography lecturer Justin Nolan serving as judge.

Vicky Payne captured Best of Show for “Mr. Debonair,” while Gloria Lotzer’s “Where Gravity Pauses” earned first place. Ian Hathaway took second with “Sunflowers by Dawns Early Light,” and Will Abair placed third with “Milky Way Palm.” Ans van Beek received both the Casements Award and a Merit Award for “A Quiet Place.”

Want to see what caught the judge’s eye? The photographs remain on display at The Casements Gallery in Ormond Beach through Sept. 30.

🌻 Family Art Night Blooms at OMAM

A sunflower-themed evening turned into a memorable first for the Thornburg family at Ormond Memorial Art Museum. Keith and Jackie Thornburg and their 2-year-old daughter, Kinsley, were selected as OMAM’s featured family following the Sept. 4 Free Family Art Night.

The family moved to Ormond Beach from Washington, D.C., five years ago and recently became museum members, in part because of its children’s programming. The night’s Vincent van Gogh-inspired 3-D sunflower project was especially fitting for Kinsley, who enjoys painting and grew sunflowers in her own garden this year.

Free Family Art Night is generally held on the first Friday of each month, with supplies provided and all ages welcome. The next event is Oct. 2.

⛽ Diesel Hits a Record $6 a Gallon

Diesel prices crossed the $6-per-gallon mark for the first time Friday, potentially creating a ripple effect well beyond the fuel pump. The national average reached $6.05, while Florida climbed to $6.06, according to AAA figures cited by the Daytona News-Journal.

The increase is particularly costly for trucking. Filling a 300-gallon semi-truck tank in Florida now tops $1,800, compared with roughly $1,000 a year ago. Those higher transportation expenses can eventually find their way into prices for groceries, restaurant meals and other consumer goods.

Regular gasoline is also climbing. Florida’s average reached $4.15 per gallon Friday, up $1.14 from a year earlier. With trucks moving much of what consumers buy, the diesel milestone could make its presence felt throughout household budgets.
