🌟 Welcoming Patriots: DAR Chapter Grows by Four

The Capt. James Ormond Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution has a few new faces around the table. At its April meeting, the chapter proudly welcomed Megan Rasmussen, Cassie Rasmussen, Allison Annon, and Betty Bullock as official members. The DAR, known for promoting historic preservation, education, and patriotism, continues to grow its mission through these enthusiastic additions. For those curious about lineage-based membership or wanting to explore the organization's initiatives, the chapter’s local presence offers a chance to connect with a proud American tradition.

🏈 Record Breaker: Seabreeze Senior Plays Five Sports in One Year

Most high schoolers struggle to juggle one extracurricular. Luke Cloer? He handled five varsity sports — football, weightlifting, wrestling, track and field, and swimming — all in one academic year. The 17-year-old Seabreeze High School senior wanted to prove that passion and perseverance can defy expectations. Alongside athletics, Cloer joined over seven clubs, served as a Student Council Ambassador, and even dressed as Santa Claus while reading to elementary kids. After graduation, he’s heading to Stetson University to play Division 1 football. His advice to underclassmen? Be yourself and get involved. According to Principal Tucker Harris, Cloer’s leadership and energy have made a lasting impression at Seabreeze — and there's no doubt his story will inspire many Sandcrabs to follow in his cleat-marks.

🏃 Carrying the Flame: OBPD Hosts Torch Run for Special Olympics

Ormond Beach Police Department lit up the Sports Complex on May 3 for its second Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Florida. The one-mile fun run united law enforcement, first responders, Special Olympic athletes, and community members in a show of support and solidarity. Officers from across Central Florida, including the FBI and the State Attorney’s Office, joined the event. Ken Roop, director of the statewide initiative, emphasized the significance of community and police collaboration: 78,000 Florida athletes now benefit from the support, with every expense — from lodging to uniforms — fully covered. OBPD Chief Jesse Godfrey expressed his gratitude for the turnout and sponsors like the Adams Cameron Foundation. As the torch makes its way to the Disney Wild World of Sports for the final leg on May 16, Ormond’s contribution glows with pride.

✈️ Gold Star Standard: Are You Ready for REAL ID?

The deadline for REAL ID compliance is here — starting May 7, you’ll need one to board a domestic flight unless you have an acceptable alternative like a passport. Good news: Volusia County Tax Collector Will Roberts reports that about 99% of residents are already REAL ID-ready. Still, it’s worth checking. If your driver’s license has a gold star in the top right corner, you’re in the clear. If not, you’ll need to bring specific documents to a driver's license service center to upgrade. Common pitfalls include outdated birth certificates (hospital-issued ones don’t count) or missing proof of address. For assistance, visit volusiataxcollector.org or call 386-254-4610. And if you haven’t updated your license since 2010 — or changed your name — now’s the time to beat the checkpoint scramble.

Are You Leaving Money on the Table by Not Using AI?

While major corporations invest millions in artificial intelligence, most local businesses in our community are missing out on tools that could dramatically cut costs and boost productivity—simply because there's no clear roadmap for implementation.

As someone who's leveraged AI to revolutionize our newsletter operations, I've seen the difference: tasks that once consumed several hours now wrap up in minutes. Customer insights that once required expensive consultants now appear at the click of a button.

I'm exploring creating a community hub where local business owners and individuals alike can discover AI applications , access step-by-step guides, and connect with others who've successfully integrated these tools.

But first, I need to understand what's holding you back. Is it confusion about where to start? Concerns about cost? Questions about relevance to your specific industry?

Your 3-minute response to our survey will help build a resource that addresses your actual barriers—not theoretical ones. In return, survey participants will receive priority access when we launch and exclusive first-month content completely free. - George Sloane, Publisher, Ormond Local Pulse
