Volusia County Sheriff
🚨 Commanding Officer Arrested in Child Exploitation Case
A deeply disturbing case unfolded in Ormond Beach as John Delage, 57, was arrested on 40 counts of possession of child sexual abuse material. The arrest took place Friday evening at the American Legion Post, where Delage served as the commanding officer. Deputies took him into custody without incident, with full cooperation from the Post’s staff.
This investigation began after a tip to the Volusia Sheriff’s Office Child Exploitation Unit from the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children. Authorities have not released further details about the materials or the origin of the tip, but Delage is now facing serious legal consequences.
This arrest comes as a jarring reminder of the importance of vigilant reporting and the tireless efforts of law enforcement to track and address these crimes. The Sheriff’s Office continues its investigation.

🌿 Degree Wellness Brings Recovery Studio to Nova Road
On a lighter and much healthier note, Ormond Beach is welcoming a new face in wellness. Degree Wellness is opening its doors on Feb. 7 at 175 S. Nova Road, offering a wide range of holistic recovery services like cryotherapy, IV therapy, cold plunges, and red light therapy.
The venture is led by locals Makenzy Landay, Zach Coombs, Mitch Wilson, and Faith Wilson—each juggling full-time careers while working to build a haven of wellness for their hometown. Their goal? To make Ormond Beach a place where people don’t just live, but thrive.
They’ve transformed a former restaurant (cavatelli Pasta) into a sleek 2,800-square-foot studio with private suites and a plush recovery lounge. Memberships are already live, and founding members will get early access starting Jan. 31. With nearly 200 sign-ups already, it seems the community is ready to embrace this health-forward vision. 🏡 Big Changes Proposed for Florida Mobile Home Rules
Switching gears to state legislation, a new Florida bill—SB 1550—could bring sweeping changes to mobile home park regulations, impacting thousands of residents. Filed by State Sen. LaVon Bracy Davis, the bill would expand how courts evaluate rent increases, introduce new payment protections, and require transparency in fee hikes.
Some of the standout changes: a 10-day grace period for rent payments (up from 5 days), mandatory acceptance of paper checks, and required documentation justifying rent hikes. If parks remove amenities, residents would be entitled to rent reductions.
The bill also proposes bigger relocation payouts—from $3,000 to $6,500 (or more)—for residents displaced due to land-use changes, and even provides an option to abandon a mobile home for a cash payout from the state. If passed, these reforms would go into effect on July 1.
This bill joins other legislative efforts aimed at protecting mobile home residents amid rising living costs and redevelopment pressures.
