🆘 Missing Person Alert: Help Find Carol Reid

Daytona Beach Police are asking for the public's help in locating 88-year-old Carol Reid, who has been reported missing and endangered. Ms. Reid was last seen near Main Street and Wild Olive, wearing a blue shirt and blue jeans. Authorities say she was walking in the area when she disappeared.

Time is critical in cases like this, especially considering her age. If you’ve seen Ms. Reid or have any information that could assist, you're urged to contact the Daytona Beach Police Department immediately. The department emphasizes community cooperation in ensuring everyone’s safety—especially our most vulnerable neighbors.

Please keep an eye out and share any tips with Daytona Beach Police that could bring Ms. Reid home safely.

🚔 Standoff in Ormond Ends Without Injury

An intense situation in Ormond Beach came to a peaceful resolution when a man who had allegedly threatened a neighbor with a gun surrendered after barricading himself in a mobile home. The incident occurred at Pinewood Estates on Hand Avenue and prompted a SWAT response.

The suspect's girlfriend exited the home first around 11 a.m., followed by the man’s eventual surrender shortly before 1 p.m. after an armored vehicle arrived on the scene. No injuries were reported, and the man is now in custody.

Authorities are investigating the initial altercation and any potential charges stemming from the standoff. Fortunately, this potentially dangerous situation was handled without harm to bystanders or officers.

🚱 “Toilet to Tap” Debate Returns to Volusia County

Volusia County’s water future is again making waves as the political committee Let Volusia Vote seeks to place a charter amendment on the 2026 ballot banning the use of blackwater—treated sewage—in drinking water or aquifer replenishment.

Greg Gimbert, the group’s leader, addressed the County Council, warning about the risks of injecting even treated wastewater into the aquifer without public approval. Though this isn't the first time the issue has come up, there’s growing traction for allowing citizens to vote on it directly.

Council members are split but more receptive this time, directing staff to explore the legal landscape. State law complicates things, though—it limits how much local governments can regulate water reuse. So, whether this proposal gains legal ground or not, one thing’s clear: the “toilet to tap” controversy is flowing back into the spotlight.

🏛️ Ormond Beach Historical Society Turns 50

The Ormond Beach Historical Society kicked off its 50th anniversary with its annual awards banquet and a slate of newly installed 2026 officers. Held at the historic Anderson-Price Memorial Building, the event was both a look back and a look forward.

New president Jayne Fifer leads the group this year, with Mary Smith—now the immediate past president—receiving the Anderson-Price Memorial Award for her service. Other notable honors included Stacey Simmons as Volunteer of the Year and the Pilgrim’s Rest Cemetery receiving the Community Preservation Award.

The OBHS continues to honor and preserve the city’s rich history, and this golden anniversary marks a major milestone in its legacy of community engagement and cultural stewardship.
