🐢 Deputies Help Lost Hatchlings Find Their Way Home

Volusia County deputies traded their usual patrol duties for wildlife rescue overnight after discovering about 75 baby sea turtles heading in the wrong direction. The sand-covered hatchlings became disoriented and began crawling up a beach access instead of toward the Atlantic Ocean. Deputies gathered the tiny turtles and turned them over to Volusia County staff, who later released them safely into the water. The rescue comes during a record-breaking nesting season, with Volusia County recently documenting its highest number of sea turtle nests ever. As nesting season continues through Oct. 31, officials remind residents and visitors that simple actions—such as reducing beachfront lighting, filling in holes and removing beach equipment at night—can make a big difference in protecting these remarkable marine animals.

🎓 Boys & Girls Clubs Open New Headquarters

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Volusia/Flagler Counties have officially opened a new headquarters in Daytona Beach, marking a significant milestone for the organization as it continues to grow and serve nearly 2,000 young people each year. Located in the former Turie T. Small Elementary School building, the renovated facility provides room for expanded programming, including new AgriTech education and workforce development initiatives that will introduce students to careers in aerospace, advanced manufacturing and other high-demand industries. The move also symbolizes the organization's successful turnaround following leadership changes in recent years. Community leaders say the new headquarters strengthens partnerships and reinforces the club's mission of providing safe, supportive opportunities that help local youth build brighter futures.
