🚨 Fatal Crash on A1A a Stark Roadway Reminder

A tragic accident on Saturday evening along State Road A1A in Ormond-by-the-Sea has left one man dead and another woman critically injured. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash occurred just after 6 p.m. when a 2026 Chevrolet Corvette attempted to pass a Jeep Wrangler in a no-passing zone. The Corvette clipped the Jeep, causing it to overturn and eject both of its occupants.

The driver of the Jeep, a 72-year-old man from Ohio, died at the scene. His passenger, a 73-year-old woman from Ormond Beach, was flown to Halifax Health Medical Center with serious injuries. Neither occupant was wearing a seatbelt.

The driver of the Corvette, a man from Port Barrington, Illinois, sustained only minor injuries and was also taken to Halifax Health. The incident remains under investigation, serving as a sobering reminder about the dangers of risky driving behaviors and the critical importance of seatbelt use.

🎖️ Honoring 30 Years of Service and Welcoming New Faces

At its October meeting, the Capt. James Ormond Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) took a moment to honor Elizabeth Strong with a 30-year membership certificate. Strong, a two-time regent of the chapter, was recognized for her dedication to preserving and promoting the values of DAR—a national lineage-based organization of women with ancestors who fought in the American Revolution.

In addition to celebrating Strong’s milestone, the chapter gave a warm welcome to its newest member, Claudia Colvin, marking the start of her journey in the organization. These moments of recognition and growth reflect the chapter's ongoing commitment to community, heritage, and service.

🎨 Halifax Art Festival Paints the Town with Talent

Despite a brisk breeze in Daytona Beach, the 63rd annual Halifax Art Festival launched in full creative swing, filling Beach Street with more than 300 booths of fine art, crafts, and food. The juried event, hosted by the Guild of the Museum of Arts & Sciences, drew thousands of art lovers and collectors for what’s become a cultural staple—and a major fundraiser for the museum.

Artists from across the country brought their best, from Jesse Alfonso’s handcrafted metal and wood fish sculptures to Tonya McGuire’s soulful oil paintings, which were inspired by a return to art following a medical wake-up call. Each booth had its own story, like Sam VanDyk’s cypress driftwood works, hand-harvested from Florida’s swamps and turned into rustic treasures.

Whether they were longtime festivalgoers or accidental attendees (like one Ocala visitor who wandered in while searching for a farmers market), most guests left charmed and inspired. As one local put it, “It’s a real icon for this area.”
