🎣 Backwater Provisions Casts a Line in Ormond Beach

Backwater Provisions, the fishing and outdoor lifestyle store, has reeled in a second location—this time in the heart of Ormond Beach. Nestled inside Granada Plaza at 177 E. Granada Blvd., the shop opened its doors on May 10, bringing top-tier gear and coastal vibes with it.

Founded by Darren Loscalzo and locally owned by franchisee Tony Puglia, the store boasts brands like YETI, AFTCO, Marsh Wear, and its own line of branded apparel. You'll also find fishing essentials from Penn, Starr, and Florida Fishing Products. More than just a place to gear up, the shop aims to be a gathering spot for locals and visitors alike, championing community spirit and outdoor adventure.

🎨 Color Joy Brings Creative Play to Ormond's Young Artists

Kids now have a new outlet for imagination thanks to Color Joy Art Studio, a fresh space founded by longtime Volusia County Schools art teacher Lisa Rademacher. Designed for children ages 6 to 14, the studio offers classes, workshops, and camps that focus on artistic exploration rather than just polished results.

With over 25 years in design and a degree from Purdue, Rademacher is on a mission to make extracurricular art opportunities more accessible. Kids can try everything from printmaking to sculpture in a fun, supportive setting. Summer programs run June through August, and art clubs for teens and juniors will launch this fall.

🧵 Native Home Marketplace Makes Its Mark in Volusia Mall

A new wave of handcrafted charm has arrived at the Volusia Mall with the opening of Native Home Marketplace. Founded by artisan advocate Ca-rin Whitehawk, the shop features one-of-a-kind items from local creators—everything from repurposed furniture to bottle-cap art.

The marketplace isn't just a boutique—it’s a community-driven space where shoppers can feel good about what (and who) they’re supporting. The eco-conscious mission is clear: promote sustainability, support neighbors, and keep art and materials out of landfills. With tourism season in full swing and local traffic growing, it seems Native Home may be just the spark the Volusia Mall needed.

Whitehawk, who originally started in Oviedo, expanded to Daytona after an invitation from the mall’s manager, Renee Milza. Early signs point to success—with plenty of smiles to show for it.
