🚒 First Responders Get Real-World Training in Ormond Beach

Before several former hotel properties near the I-95/U.S. 1 interchange come down to make way for a major roadway improvement project, the Florida Department of Transportation turned the buildings into a valuable training ground for local first responders. Fire rescue crews from Volusia and Flagler counties, along with Ormond Beach and Holly Hill, spent more than a week conducting realistic emergency response exercises that included fire suppression, roof ventilation, and multi-agency coordination. Officials say training in actual structures provides invaluable experience that can't be duplicated in a classroom. Once training concluded, the buildings were cleared for demolition as construction moves forward on the massive interchange project, which is designed to improve safety and traffic flow for approximately 125,000 motorists each day.

🏖️ Beach Safety Teams Ready for Busy Fourth of July Weekend

As thousands of visitors head to the coast for Independence Day, Volusia County Beach Safety is ramping up preparations for one of the busiest weekends of the year. The agency plans to staff approximately 80 lifeguard towers from Ormond Beach to New Smyrna Beach while monitoring conditions through six control towers and its Watchtower tracking system. Officials are urging beachgoers to swim only near staffed towers after rescuing between 20 and 30 swimmers during Memorial Day weekend. Visitors are also reminded that alcohol and fireworks are prohibited on county beaches and are encouraged to stay hydrated, wear sunscreen, and download the Volusia Beaches app for real-time surf conditions. Tourism leaders are hopeful the holiday weekend will also provide a welcome boost to the area's summer economy.

🚔 Multi-Agency Drug Investigation Targets Holly Hill Properties

Meanwhile, a large law enforcement operation unfolded across Volusia County as the Volusia Sheriff's Office, alongside several local, state, and federal agencies, executed search warrants connected to an investigation into a group Sheriff Mike Chitwood identified as the "Cutthroat Killers." Authorities say the investigation involves suspects linked to multiple shootings and several fatal overdose cases throughout the county. One search focused on a house owned by Greater Harvest Ministries in Holly Hill, prompting Pastor Terry Brown to publicly deny any wrongdoing by the church itself. Brown emphasized that deputies searched a separate residence owned by the church—not the sanctuary—and called for a public apology after comments suggesting otherwise. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue serving warrants and gathering evidence.

Wholesale to Retail -Fragrances 4 Less

There’s something fun about walking into a fragrance shop. It is part shopping trip, part treasure hunt, and part personality test. One spray says “date night.” Another says “fresh out of the shower.” Another says “I am definitely more interesting than my grocery list suggests.”

At Fragrances 4 Less, located at 100 E. Granada Blvd. in Ormond Beach, owner Matt Kynard has built a local shop around that exact experience.

Matt Kynard, Owner - Amanda, Store Associate

Matt did not start out in the fragrance business. He spent 15 years in the auto industry before burnout pushed him to look for something different. He had always been interested in fragrances, so he found a supplier and began selling from his home office on Amazon.

Then COVID changed the plan.

Matt moved the operation into an office at 100 E. Granada. The business grew quickly so he decided to build out the full retail storefront right on Granada Blvd at the same address.

Today, Fragrances 4 Less offers hundreds of perfume and cologne options, including well-known designer brands and quality off-brand alternatives, often priced 30% to 40% below retail. And according to Matt, many customers are surprised by what happens when they compare scents side by side.

Often, when buyers are given a choice, they cannot tell the difference between the designer name brand and the more affordable alternative.

One of the hottest lines in the store right now, Matt says, is Michael Malul London, a Designer Brand whose scents have been getting great reactions from customers. In some cases, shoppers even prefer them over the big designer labels.

The store serves both men and women about evenly. Men often come in shopping for themselves and for a wife or girlfriend, while women are more likely to be choosing something for themselves.

You can browse some of the available lines at www.Wholesale2Retail.org, but Matt says the best way to find the right fragrance is to stop in, sample the offerings, and let your nose make the decision.

Wholsale to Retail Fragrances 4 Less is open Wednesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information, call (386) 238-9091. Be sure to mention Ormond Local Pulse when you call or stop in for a SPECIAL DEAL!
