Flagler County Seeks Mediation in Easement Dispute with Ormond Beach
The legal dispute between Flagler County and Ormond Beach revolves around a 60-foot-wide road easement in Hunter's Ridge, granted by the developer, U.S. Capital Alliance, to Flagler County. Ormond Beach argues this action breaches the development agreement, which stipulated that the land, owned by the developer, should have been transferred to the city for conservation. Flagler County sought the easement to access its conservation land and address illegal activities. Facing a situation where Ormond Beach did not own the land at the time, Flagler County obtained the easement from the developer. Flagler County maintains that it informed Ormond Beach about the easement, asserting the decision was a necessary action taken in full transparency.
Ormond Beach Man Indicted in Daytona Double Murder and Arson Case
Charles Leon Ivy, 34, of Ormond Beach, has been indicted on multiple charges, including two counts of first-degree murder, following a tragic incident in Daytona Beach. The indictment came after the Volusia County Grand Jury reviewed his case.
The charges stem from an event on November 20, where Ivy allegedly attacked Den’Jah Moore, inflicting over 100 stab wounds. Subsequently, he is accused of setting Moore's apartment on fire, leading to her death and that of her 10-month-old son, Messiah Calixte.
Two other children, Dakotah and Dove Moore, were rescued from the blaze by authorities and are currently in critical condition. Ivy faces additional charges of attempted first-degree murder for their endangerment and arson of a dwelling.
Daytona Beach Police Department Chief Jakari Young disclosed that Ivy, who is the father of Dakotah and Dove, was not the custodial parent at the time of the crime. Ivy is currently held without bond at the Volusia County Branch Jail.
Volusia County Council Extends Work Hours
The Volusia County Council recently amended its code of ordinances to extend construction hours in unincorporated areas. Construction activities can now start at 6 a.m. and end at 9 p.m. every day, regardless of weekends or holidays. This change, initiated by Councilman Danny Robins, is part of the council's broader effort to reduce regulatory barriers and promote economic growth within the county.
New York and California Fuel Florida's Population Surge in 2022
Florida, in 2022, maintained its position as a highly desirable destination, attracting a substantial influx of new residents. The U.S. Census Bureau reported that the state's migration rate far exceeded the national average, with a notably high number of people moving in and a lower number of residents leaving. Key contributors to this growth included New York and California, with large numbers of residents relocating to Florida. Additionally, the state was a major destination for over 250,000 international migrants. Despite the impressive figures, the specific origins and legal status of these international migrants remain unidentified. Here’s a chart with the Top Ten states contributing to Florida’s growth;
