Bunnell Brothers Sentenced To Six Years in Prison

Flagler County Sherrif’s Office

Two brothers, 19-year-old Marcian Thompson Jr. and 22-year-old Ja'Vere Lumpkins, have been sentenced to six years in prison each, followed by nine years of sex offender probation and registration, for child molestation charges involving the same juvenile victim. The charges against the brothers were not identical; Thompson was convicted of molesting a victim under 12 and another between 12 and 16, while Lumpkins was found guilty on two counts involving a victim under 12.

Their arrests occurred in July 2022, with Lumpkins being taken into custody at his Palm Coast residence and Thompson in Orlando, the latter with the assistance of the Orange County Sheriff's Office. Following their conviction, Flagler Sheriff Rick Staly reportedly praised the Major Case Unit for their work in this difficult case and stressed the importance of safeguarding children from such offenders. He also expressed hope for the victims' recovery and the continued vigilance of law enforcement in protecting children.

This case highlights the severity with which the legal system treats crimes against minors and the collaborative efforts of law enforcement agencies in addressing such offenses.

Local Attorney Mel Stack Honored with Lifetime Achievement Award by Halifax Humane Society

Mel Stack, a local attorney, was recently honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Halifax Humane Society during their annual Fur Ball event at the Ocean Center on December 6. The gala, which attracted more than 450 animal welfare enthusiasts, aimed to raise funds for the society and recognize individuals who have significantly impacted animal welfare in the community.

Stack's recognition comes after a 30-year tenure with the Halifax Humane Society, where he has been lauded for his leadership qualities, professional demeanor, dedication, and compassion. His contributions have been crucial in improving the society's operational effectiveness and programming, leading to the rescue and placement of thousands of animals in permanent homes. The award highlights Stack's commitment to advocating for the care and protection of animals in need.

Ormond Beach Police

  • On November 24, 73-year-old Joseph A. Pereira from Ormond Beach was taken into custody and faced charges of battery. He was held without bail.

  • Dana Lee, a 30-year-old resident of Ormond Beach, was arrested on November 27 on charges of aggravated battery. Lee was detained without the option of bail.

  • Kevin Glen Cushing, 38, also from Ormond Beach, was arrested on November 28. He faces multiple charges including battery, criminal mischief, and a drug-related offense. Cushing's bail was set at $2,500.

Volusia County Sheriff

  • 44-year-old Matthew Joe Angelmyer from Ormond Beach was taken into custody on November 24. He faces charges including failure to properly register as a sex offender, possession of a controlled substance without a prescription, and advertising drug paraphernalia. His bail was established at $3,000.

  • Melinda Ann McCune, a 38-year-old resident of Ormond Beach, was arrested on November 29. She was charged with possession of a controlled substance without a prescription and possession of paraphernalia. McCune's bail was also set at $3,000.
