A recent study has revealed a critical flaw in the Pfizer mRNA COVID-19 vaccine, causing unintended immune responses. This issue, identified by researchers from the Medical Research Council (MRC) Toxicology Unit and collaborators from several universities, is attributed to a specific chemical modification in the mRNA sequence that leads to misinterpretation during protein synthesis. The study, published in Nature, found that this misinterpretation resulted in the production of unintended proteins, triggering adverse immune responses in a significant number of vaccinated individuals. In response, the MRC team has reengineered the vaccine's mRNA to eliminate these errors, highlighting the importance of precision in mRNA-based therapies and the need for careful monitoring of potential side effects in future.

Locals See Major Relief at the Pump with Gas Prices Falling Sharply

Florida has witnessed a significant decrease in gasoline prices, recently tumbling to an all-time low for 2023. According to Gas Buddy, as of Monday afternoon, the regular gasoline price in Ormond Beach ranged from $2.89 to $3.45 marking a substantial reduction from the week before. In Daytona the prices were ranging from $2.62 to $3.29 with Bucee's being the lowest. About 35% of gas stations across Florida are offering prices below $3.

This price drop has been attributed to a plunge in oil and gasoline futures prices, which occurred last week. The catalyst for this decline was a weekly fuel report revealing strong refinery activity, resulting in a significant increase in gasoline supplies. Despite potential fluctuations in the coming weeks, AAA Auto Club suggests that these low pump prices are likely to persist through the holiday season, barring any unexpected surges in oil prices.

Volunteer Ushers Needed at Ormond Beach Performing Arts Center

The Ormond Beach Performing Arts Center is looking for volunteers to serve as ushers. These volunteers are essential in assisting showgoers by handing out programs, guiding them to their seats, and providing information about the facility. Volunteer ushers also have the chance to join in various social events throughout the year.

Interested individuals need to attend an orientation and training session. The commitment requires volunteering for a minimum of three events per month, from July through June. Adjustments to this requirement can be made if necessary.

The next orientation session is scheduled for Thursday, January 4, 2023, from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Volunteers need an email address and computer access, as event sign-ups are done online.
