Ormond Beach Schools Excel in State Assessments, Majority Earn 'A' or 'B'

The Florida Department of Education released the 2022-2023 school grades, showing a positive trend in Ormond Beach area schools. All schools in the area either maintained or improved their grades, with four elementary schools achieving an "A." Middle schools in the area earned a "B," with one showing improvement from a "C." Seabreeze High School improved to a "B," narrowly missing an "A," while Mainland High School sustained its "C" grade. These achievements are credited to the efforts of teachers, staff, and district leadership, focusing on enhancing student performance. The district as a whole maintained its "B" grade, with over half of its schools earning an "A" or "B." This year's grades were the first to be calculated using new assessment methods, aimed at providing a foundation for future growth without negative consequences for schools.

New Buc-ee’s Car Wash To Be Longest In The Area

Image-Culture Map

Construction has begun on a new Buc-ee's car wash next to the existing Buc-ee's gas station and convenience store in Daytona Beach. The 1.55-acre site at 1610 Technology Blvd. is expected to open within 8 to 10 months and will feature a 235-foot-long car wash tunnel, making it one of the largest in Florida. The car wash will operate from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., and customers can receive a fuel discount with certain car wash purchases. The number of jobs this new facility will create has not been specified. This development follows the success of the Buc-ee's location in Daytona Beach, which has drawn millions of visitors and is known for its low gas prices and wide range of products.

Irish Citizen Named as Suspect in Flagler Beach Hate Crime Investigation

Flagler Beach Police Department

Liam Mackin, a 70-year-old Irish citizen, has been identified by the Flagler Beach Police Department as the suspect in a string of anti-Semitic vandalism in Flagler Beach. The graffiti targeted businesses under Jewish and/or Israeli-American ownership. The identification was made possible through the efforts of FBPD Detective Rosanna Vinci and collaboration with the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office. Although Mackin is currently in Ireland with no known plans to return to the U.S., an arrest warrant has been issued. He faces charges of criminal mischief and evidencing prejudice. Police Chief Matt Doughney stated that Mackin would be arrested if he attempts to re-enter the country.
