Volusia County Urges Residents to Prepare for Expected Coastal Floods, Severe Rip Currents, and Significant Rainfall
A storm system is anticipated to bring severe weather conditions to Volusia County, today and continuing over the weekend. The National Weather Service has warned of a high risk of rip currents, a high surf advisory, and a coastal flood watch. Officials urge beach visitors to exercise caution, advising against entering the water. If unavoidable, it's recommended to swim near a staffed lifeguard tower and stay in waist-deep water.
The County is proactively removing beach amenities such as port-o-lets, trash bins, and dog bag dispensers, and may shut off water to coastal showers. Erosion inspections will be conducted on walkovers and ramps, with possible temporary closures of access points.
The Volusia Beaches app provides real-time updates on lifeguard towers, beach access, and weather conditions. Visitors should heed warnings, supervise children and novice swimmers, and follow lifeguard directions.
Inland areas of the county are also expected to experience heavy rainfall. Residents are advised to prepare their properties and exercise caution on water-covered roadways.
The forecast for the upcoming winter season suggests an El Niño weather pattern, indicating a likelihood of increased rainfall and severe weather. The Volusia County Emergency Management app offers real-time weather alerts and information on severe weather preparedness.
Volusia County Tops Florida's Second Home Market with Record Growth
Florida continues to be a hotspot for second home buyers, with three counties including Volusia, Orange, and Indian River making it to Pacaso’s 2024 watchlist. Volusia County, renowned for destinations like Daytona Beach, New Smyrna Beach, and Ormond Beach, is leading the trend with a staggering 47% increase in average second home value year-over-year. Additionally, it recorded a 19% growth in second home transactions, marking it as the second-largest expansion in this category. The average second home price in Volusia County has reached an impressive $4,105,174 in 2023.
Orange County and Indian River County are also drawing attention, each witnessing over 20% appreciation in luxury second homes. This ongoing surge in Florida's real estate market highlights the continued appeal of the state for those seeking luxury second homes.
