Central Florida is expected to experience a major temperature plummet this week, with temperatures dropping significantly. On Tuesday, temperatures are forecast to decrease significantly, with residents expecting temperatures in the mid-40s. A light breeze from the north can bring wind chills down to the upper 30s. The high temperatures on Tuesday will struggle to hit 60 degrees.
Ormond Beach Senior Duped in Costly Scam Involving 'UN Representative'
A 78-year-old woman from Ormond Beach contacted the police after a package she sent with $8,500 in cash reportedly arrived empty. She had been in contact with someone claiming to be from the United Nations, who offered to help bring her boyfriend, allegedly a four-star general in Gaza, back home for a fee of $8,500. After mailing the money to Houston, Texas, she was informed the package arrived without the cash and was asked to send more money, which she declined. The woman met her boyfriend at a football game in Virginia and had not made online inquiries about his return. The police suspect the boyfriend's involvement in the scam, but the woman chose not to press charges.
Florida Motorists Enjoy Lowest Gas Prices Since 2021, Says AAA
Florida has experienced a significant decrease in gas prices, reaching the lowest level in two years, with the state average falling to $2.86 per gallon. This marks a decrease of 31 cents per gallon over the past 17 days, according to AAA. Currently, 88% of gas stations in Florida are selling fuel for less than $3 per gallon, and 33% have prices as low as $2.75 per gallon or cheaper. AAA spokesperson Mark Jenkins attributes this decline to strong domestic gasoline supplies and lower oil prices. While there has been a slight increase in oil prices recently, AAA expects gas prices to remain low during the holiday season, benefiting the over 6 million Floridians planning road trips. In our area, Murphy USA at 1903 North Nova Rd was sporting the lowest price for regular at $2.78/gallon at this writing with Buc-ee’s at $2.89.
Are Fireworks Legal In Florida? Yes and No
Florida law defines fireworks as any combustible or explosive composition prepared for the purpose of producing a visible or audible effect by combustion, explosion, deflagration, or detonation. However, in 2020, three legal fireworks holidays were established: New Year's Eve, New Year's Day, and Independence Day. These holidays are exempt from the existing fireworks laws and allow Floridians to purchase and set off fireworks provided they are used solely and exclusively in frightening birds from agricultural works and fish hatcheries.
Under Florida's New Child Rape Rule, The First Case To Be Tried For The Death Penalty In Lake County
Florida's Fifth Judicial Circuit State Attorney Bill Gladson is seeking the death penalty for a man charged with raping a child. The move comes after lawmakers passed a law allowing the death penalty for those convicted of sexually battering children under the age of 12. The case involves Joseph Andrew Giampa, 36, on charges of child sexual battery and promoting a sexual performance of a child. Gladson cited the law that took effect on October 1 and stated that his decision to pursue the death penalty reflects the gravity of the charges and the State Attorney's Office's dedication to holding criminals accountable. The decision to seek the death penalty will likely draw legal challenges, as both the U.S. Supreme Court and Florida Supreme Court precedents have barred death sentences for rapists. Florida trial judges now have the discretion to impose the death penalty or sentence defendants to life in prison.
Do You Think The Death Penalty is Too Harsh For This Crime? |
