Ormond Beach Planning Board to Deliberate Rezoning of Former Tomoka Oaks Golf Course Tonight

The Ormond Beach Planning Board is set to review a rezoning request for the former Tomoka Oaks golf course.

Developers Carl Velie, Ray Barshay, Sheldon Rubin, and Emily Rubin are seeking to rezone the 147.94-acre parcel from Planned Residential Development to R-2 "Single-family low density." This decision follows the City Commission's recommendation for a revised plan, as the initial proposal of 272 homes was criticized for being too dense and not fitting with the neighborhood.

The developers have withdrawn their original application and are now considering a plan that could allow for over 300 homes. A public hearing is scheduled for 6pm, tonight,Jan. 11 at the Tomoka Christian Church on Hand Avenue. The property was previously zoned R-2 before being changed to PRD in 2006 for a project that was halted by the 2008 recession. The city's land development code requires a minimum lot width of 100 feet for R-2 zones, aligning with residents' requests for larger lot sizes.

Florida's Top Health Official Recommends Halting mRNA Vaccines,

Florida Surgeon General Joseph Ladapo has recommended halting the use of mRNA COVID-19 vaccines, a stance in conflict with federal health authorities. This recommendation came after Ladapo questioned the safety of these vaccines to the FDA and found their response inadequate. The FDA, in a detailed response, countered Ladapo's concerns, emphasizing the vaccines' safety and warning against the spread of misinformation.

Ladapo, has been known for his controversial views on COVID-19 vaccines. He has previously issued recommendations against vaccinating healthy children and advised against new boosters for those under 65. His latest advisory, which questions the safety of mRNA vaccines like Pfizer and Moderna, raises concerns about DNA integration and genome integrity, claims refuted by the CDC and FDA.

The CDC has clarified that mRNA vaccines do not alter human DNA, and the FDA has expressed confidence in the vaccines' safety, backed by extensive global use. Despite criticism from medical professionals for his selective use of data, Ladapo maintains his position, supported by the Florida Department of Health.

Ormond Crossings' New Developer: A Look at Brad Kline's Past Real Estate Ventures

Is he up to the task?

Brad Kline, a seasoned real estate developer from Maryland, has recently completed purchase of the large Ormond Crossings development site in Ormond Beach. His career, dating back to 1978, includes a variety of projects, though they have received limited media attention. His work ranges from small mixed-use developments to ambitious multi-acre projects.

Kline's notable projects include a development in Ashburn, Virginia, involving the renovation of historic buildings for mixed-use, and the Discovery Square South project in Herndon, Virginia, which includes townhomes and retail space. In 1998, he was interested in a large-scale development in Dumfries, Virginia, featuring homes and recreational facilities.

His more significant projects include Purcellville Crossroads, initially a large mixed-use development, now scaled down to a smaller residential project. Another major project, Jefferson Tech Park in Frederick, Maryland, planned for a mix of residential, hotel, and office spaces, is currently marketing a life science campus.

Kline's discussion with Ormond Beach's economic development director included references to Jefferson Tech Park and the Ashburn project, indicating his experience in diverse real estate ventures.
