Belvedere Terminals Sues Volusia County Over Stalled Fuel Facility Project

Belvedere Terminals Company LLC has filed a lawsuit against Volusia County, challenging a development moratorium that has delayed its fuel storage and distribution facility near Ormond Beach.

The Volusia County Council's decision to implement a nine-month moratorium in heavy industrial zones has directly impacted the proposed site of the facility.

The lawsuit, filed in the Volusia County Circuit Court, alleges that the county's actions are in direct contradiction to the existing zoning ordinances and infringe upon the company's rights. Belvedere argues that the county's refusal to process its site plan and the use of the pending ordinance doctrine are unlawful. The company had moved forward with its plans based on prior assurances from county staff regarding the zoning allowances.

Local residents have consistently opposed the project, citing various concerns. The final decision on the moratorium is expected soon.

Former Senator Randolph Bracy III to Headline Daytona's MLK Day Events

Daytona Beach is set to begin its annual celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with the MLK Banquet & Scholarship Awards on January 7, featuring former Florida Senator Randolph Bracy III as the keynote speaker.

The event, organized by the Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration for Florida, Inc., aims to extend the holiday's observance and will be held at the Hard Rock Hotel. In addition to the banquet, the organization will award scholarships to five local high school seniors, with hopes to expand their support to more students in the future.

The celebration will continue with a worship service on January 14 and a breakfast and march on January 15. A community festival initially planned for January 15 has been postponed to focus resources on student scholarships and other community projects.

Marjorie Taylor Greene to Speak at Sunday Rally in Ormond Beach Amid Controversy

Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene is set to attend a rally at the Iron Horse Saloon in Ormond Beach on Sunday, organized by Bikers Against Trafficking. This appearance follows the cancellation of her scheduled event in Orlando, which was intended to commemorate the third anniversary of the Jan. 6 Capitol riots.

The rally in Ormond Beach marks the conclusion of a poker run across Volusia County, with proceeds supporting Bikers Against Trafficking. The Florida Republican Assembly arranged for Greene's participation, although Bikers Against Trafficking, a nonpolitical nonprofit aiding trafficking victims, did not organize the event. Despite Greene's polarizing nature, organizers expect a significant turnout, with potential for protests.

The Iron Horse Saloon, hosting the rally, maintains a politically neutral stance. The cancellation of Greene's Orlando event came after public scrutiny following a tweet by Representative Anna Eskamani and negative media coverage, leading Westgate Resorts to withdraw as the venue. The rally's promotion focuses on Greene's book signing which is scheduled for 3p.m. with no reference to the Jan. 6 events.

Managing Young Dogs' Reactions to Canine Encounters During Walks

This is a common issue faced by dog owners, particularly with young dogs: their strong inclination to interact with every dog they see during walks. This behavior might not only be a simple expression of sociability but could also indicate underlying anxiety.

During walks, dogs are exposed to various stimuli that can engross them, leading to intense reactions or a lack of responsiveness. There are two main motivations behind a dog's reaction to other dogs: the desire to increase distance (due to fear, discomfort, or aggression) and the desire to decrease distance (due to overexcitement or overstimulation). Understanding whether a dog's behavior is aimed at creating or closing distance is crucial, as each requires a different approach in handling.
