Tragic Collision in Seville Claims Life of Ormond Beach Motorcyclist
A severe accident in Seville on Tuesday afternoon resulted in the death of a 73-year-old motorcyclist from Ormond Beach and critically injured another, a 71-year-old man, also from Ormond Beach. The Florida Highway Patrol reported that the incident involved a collision with an SUV pulling a trailer.
The accident occurred at the intersection of U.S. 17 and Prevatt Road at 12:24 p.m. The critically injured motorcyclist was transported to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach for treatment. The SUV driver, a 74-year-old man from Fort McCoy, sustained minor injuries and was treated at Advent Health DeLand.
The crash happened when the northbound SUV on U.S. 17 did not slow down for stopped traffic and swerved into the southbound lanes, colliding head-on with a Harley Davidson motorcycle and subsequently causing a second motorcycle to crash into the trailer. Both motorcyclists were thrown from their bikes due to the impact. The Florida Highway Patrol is conducting a thorough investigation to determine the details and cause of the crash.

Early Detection Crucial as Colon Cancer Rates Increase Among Under 50s
The rise in colon cancer among adults under 50 has been linked to modifiable risk factors such as obesity, smoking, alcohol consumption, and poor dietary habits. These factors are preventable and reversible, offering hope in reducing the disease's incidence. Symptoms like changes in bowel habits and rectal bleeding often appear late, making early medical consultation crucial.
The recommended age for initial colonoscopy screening has been lowered to 45 for the general population and 40 for African Americans, who face a higher risk. Early detection is key to prevention and successful treatment of colon cancer. Despite the increase in younger patients developing the disease, the majority of cases still occur in older adults.
Socioeconomic status, diet, and obesity are thought to contribute to the increased risk among African Americans. The public is advised to be vigilant about symptoms and seek medical advice early. Advances in treatment have improved outcomes, even in advanced stages, emphasizing the importance of prevention and effective management.

Authentic Texas Flavors Arrive at Ormond-by-the-Sea with Lottie Bell's BBQ

Ormond-by-the-Sea has welcomed a new culinary destination, Lottie Bell's BBQ, bringing the authentic flavors of Texas barbecue to the Florida coast. The restaurant, which opened its doors in early December 2023, is the brainchild of co-owners Brandell Campbell and Scotty Aycock.
The journey to Lottie Bell's BBQ began with a food truck launched by Campbell in 2020. Over time, the truck garnered a loyal local following, serving as a meeting point for community members and a place for forging lasting friendships. Among the regulars was Aycock, who shared Campbell's fervor for cooking and, more specifically, barbecue. Their bond, akin to brotherhood, laid the foundation for their joint venture.

The opportunity to establish Lottie Bell's BBQ emerged last summer when Campbell noticed the availability of a space formerly occupied by Salty Farms Seafood Market and Restaurant. For both Campbell, a Texas native with 35 years of barbecue experience, and Aycock, a Georgian who has barbecued most of his life, the venture marked a transition from hobby to profession.
Their commitment to authenticity extends to the use of mesquite wood sourced directly from Texas for smoking their meats, a choice that sets them apart in the local culinary scene. Lottie Bell's BBQ prides itself on its natural flavors, serving meats without sauce to ensure nothing is overpowered.

The restaurant's name is a tribute to Campbell's grandmother, Lottie Bell, a woman of Blackfoot Native American descent, known for her hospitality and insistence that no one left her house hungry. Campbell's granddaughter also carries the name Lottie Bell, continuing the family legacy.
Lottie Bell's BBQ, with its commitment to a homely and peaceful dining experience, is open Thursday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., offering a range of smoked meats including brisket, ribs, and pulled pork.
Lottie Bell’s BBQ is located at 1452 Ocean Shore Blvd, Ormond-by-the-Sea, in the former Salty Farms Location. You can reach them at 386-301-5333 or “[email protected]”. Please mention Ormond Local Pulse when you call!!
