The Daytona Aquarium and Rainforest Adventure is now open, marking a new chapter in the area's tourism and educational offerings. Situated at the strategic intersection of International Speedway Boulevard and Nova Road, this 55,000-square-foot facility invites visitors into a world of aquatic and terrestrial wonder.
The aquarium boasts nearly 40 distinct exhibits, including a remarkable 100,000-gallon shark tank and two interactive touch pools—one of which is a 12,000-gallon habitat designed for stingray encounters. Beyond these immersive experiences, the facility is home to a variety of species ranging from alligators to an assortment of amphibians and reptiles, enriching visitors' understanding of diverse ecosystems.
According to sources, the Daytona Beach Area Convention and Visitors Bureau is thrilled with the opening. The addition of the aquarium is anticipated to enhance the Daytona Beach experience, offering a compelling new attraction for both locals and tourists.
The facility is not just about observation; it emphasizes interactive and educational encounters with its animal inhabitants. Guests have the opportunity to engage closely with reptilian residents, facilitated by the aquarium's dedicated animal ambassadors.
Looking ahead, the aquarium plans to expand its offerings with the introduction of The Rainforest in 2025. This phase will introduce visitors to a broader spectrum of species, including primates, sloths, and tropical birds, further broadening the educational scope of the attraction.
Open daily from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., with last admission at 5:15 p.m., the aquarium promises to be a center of learning and entertainment. For more details, interested individuals are encouraged to visit the official website at daytonaaquariumandrainforest.com.

Photo: Volusia County
Volusia County officials have announced the opening of registration for the 2024 Summer Break Camp, designed for youngsters aged 5 to 12. This year's camp promises an engaging lineup of activities, including excursions to popular attractions like Daytona Lagoon and Aquatica, sources confirm.
Parents and guardians interested in enrolling their children can do so by visiting the official county website, where a comprehensive guide to the camp's offerings and an online registration portal can be found. A nominal fee of $20, which is non-refundable, is required at the time of registration to secure a spot for the camp that runs at a weekly cost of $80 per child. This fee encompasses not only the admission to all scheduled field trips but also provides each camper with a camp T-shirt, adding to the value of this summer program.
Eligibility for the camp is inclusive, with one stipulation: 5-year-olds must have successfully completed kindergarten. The camp's locations are strategically spread across the county, including sites such as Gemini Springs Park in DeBary, the historic DeBary Hall, several community centers, schools, and parks, ensuring accessibility for families regardless of their residence within Volusia County.
In an effort to make the Summer Break Camp accessible to all, Volusia County is offering scholarships for households that meet income eligibility criteria. Information on the county website.
