Nationwide Push Against Daylight Saving Time Gains Momentum

Florida residents have just adjusted their clocks ahead one hour for daylight saving time, a practice that might have been obsolete if efforts by state and federal lawmakers had been successful. Six years ago, Florida attempted to make daylight saving time permanent with HB 1013, but the change requires federal approval. Senators Marco Rubio and Rick Scott have been advocating for the "Sunshine Protection Act" to make this change nationwide, but the act has stalled in Congress. Despite passing the Senate in 2022, the House has yet to vote on it, with former Speaker Nancy Pelosi not bringing it to the floor. Scott and Rubio continue to push for the act, citing widespread support and the desire to end the biannual clock change.
