Warning-the following 15 minute video has a disturbing 911 at the beginning
An 8-year-old boy was killed Monday after being attacked by two dogs in a neighborhood north of DeLand, Florida. The incident, reported around 5 p.m., occurred near Arabesque Drive and Airport Road. Efforts by witnesses to revive the boy through CPR were unsuccessful.
Responding deputies, in coordination with Volusia County Animal Services, located and captured the dogs, identified as a pit bull and a mixed breed. The animals are currently quarantined, and an investigation is ongoing to determine the events leading to the attack.
Authorities have not disclosed further information, citing the sensitivity of the case and its active status. Sheriff Mike Chitwood is expected to share initial findings soon. Officials are urging residents to report any previous encounters with the dogs involved.
This tragedy has left the community grieving, and local leaders have called for prayers and support for the family during this difficult time.

Ocala Forest Training Exercises Rattle Volusia County Residents
Military bombing exercises at the Pinecastle Range Complex in the Ocala National Forest are causing ground tremors and rattling windows in Volusia County this week. The U.S. Navy began training on Monday and will continue through Thursday with live and inert ordnance, potentially displacing wildlife and alarming pets.
Scheduled sessions include today from 9:15 to 10:30 a.m. and 4:45 to 6:30 p.m., and Thursday from 10:15 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Residents are advised to secure loose outdoor items to avoid attracting displaced wildlife and remain cautious when driving near the Ocala National Forest.
The Pinecastle Range has served as a vital training site since World War II, supporting Navy, Marine, and other military personnel. Concerns about noise can be directed to [email protected].
SBA Opens Hurricane Milton Recovery Center in Volusia County
The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has launched a Business Recovery Center at the Deltona Regional Library to aid Volusia County businesses and nonprofits affected by Hurricane Milton. Open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., the center offers in-person support for Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) applications, document submission, and application updates.
EIDLs provide working capital for disaster-impacted organizations, with loans up to $2 million at 4% interest for small businesses and 3.25% for nonprofits. These funds can cover payroll, debts, and other operating expenses, with deferred payments for 12 months after disbursement.
Walk-ins are welcome, and appointments can be made at appointment.sba.gov. The application deadline is July 11, and additional information is available at sba.gov/disaster.
Jaime Haynes Named Volusia School Board Chair Amid Leadership Shakeup
The Volusia County School Board has elected Jaime Haynes as its new chair following Jessie Thompson’s resignation amid backlash over remarks made at a national summit. Haynes, now in her third term as chair, was approved in a 4-1 vote during the January 14 meeting.
Thompson, who stepped down in December, had faced criticism for admitting to misleading board members to advance agenda items and for derogatory comments made during a Moms for Liberty summit. She also faced scrutiny over past actions during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Board member Donna Brosemer opposed Haynes’ appointment, citing concerns about her leadership history and ethical issues surrounding the superintendent’s contract renewal. Ruben Colon was named vice chair in a separate 3-2 vote.
Haynes pledged to focus on student success, aiming to restore stability to the board following recent controversies.
