🚨 Roofing Fraudster Lands Behind Bars

In Volusia County, authorities have arrested a local roofer accused of swindling customers out of tens of thousands of dollars. Andrew Ingram, 43, who owns Busy Bee Roofing, had multiple warrants out for his arrest after allegedly accepting large deposits for roofing work—then disappearing without doing the job. Victims say they were scammed out of amounts as high as $21,000, with another person losing $9,000. Shockingly, Ingram isn’t new to legal trouble; he was also arrested back in 2014 for stealing $2,200.

Now behind bars in the Volusia County Jail, Ingram could face more charges if additional victims come forward. If you think you were targeted by Busy Bee Roofing, the Volusia Sheriff's Office Financial Crimes Unit wants to hear from you at (386) 254-1537.

🌀 Tropics Stay Tame as Hurricane Season Begins

Here’s a rare bit of good news: the Atlantic hurricane season is off to an unusually quiet start. As of mid-May, there have been zero named storms in the Northern Hemisphere—a rarity that hasn’t occurred since 2024, and only five other times since 1950. While meteorologists like Philip Klotzbach are keeping an eye on tropical outlooks, this calm start is a breather for Floridians still reeling from last year’s triple hurricane landfalls.

But before you stash away the emergency kits, experts still advise caution. The Atlantic hurricane season officially begins June 1, and this year is forecast to be "above normal" with up to 21 named storms. For now, there’s nothing brewing in the Atlantic basin—and not even a tropical disturbance in sight. Could Andrea, the first named storm of 2025, be fashionably late?

📚 Ormond Beach Author Cracks the Scholarship Code

While others rack up student debt, Ormond Beach attorney Erika Barger figured out how to get paid before walking onto a college campus. Now she’s sharing her secrets in a new book, “Scholarship Hacks: Insider Tips for Winning College Money.” Drawing from her own journey—where she earned nearly $250,000 in scholarships—Barger guides students through the application maze with savvy, real-world advice.

A Georgetown grad, Barger took the unconventional route by self-publishing her book on Amazon. It quickly climbed to the top of its category as a #1 new release. Her core message? Treat scholarships like a job and stay organized. She recommends using a folder or spreadsheet to track deadlines and requirements—something she herself did back in 2006 with pen, paper, and hard copies. Her goal is to help other students find the same freedom and opportunity she achieved through financial aid.
