🏆 Lions Club Applauds Student Athletes

The Ormond Beach Lions Club recently stopped by Seabreeze High School to deliver its annual composite plaque recognizing the school’s 2024 Athletes of the Month. Athletic Director Anthony Campanella accepted the plaque, which lists each honoree from the past school year. It now joins a decade’s worth of similar displays that proudly line the walls of the Seabreeze office. Each month, the Lions also present individual plaques to the selected student-athletes, continuing a longstanding tradition of celebrating local excellence in youth sports.

🚨 Vandalism Allegation Raises Questions, Not Charges

Ormond Beach police were called to a local apartment complex after an employee reported that an 11-year-old boy had allegedly tampered with fire extinguishers and signage. A neighbor provided video showing the boy examining the extinguisher box, though not actually damaging it. While the boy’s mother acknowledged he may have done it, the child told police he was “just looking.” Ultimately, the officer could not confirm any foul play. The case highlights growing concerns from residents about ongoing property issues involving neighborhood youth.

🐶 Hang 8 Dog Surfing Brings Smiles—and Splashes—to Flagler Beach

The fourth annual Hang 8 Dog Surfing Extravaganza drew a crowd to Flagler Beach, as pups of all sizes competed in one of the region’s quirkiest and most beloved events. Organized by former Mayor Suzie Johnston and Commissioner Eric Cooley, the contest featured canine surfers in small, medium, large, tandem, and even costume categories. The day also included vendor booths, live music from Vern Shank of Surf 97.3, and judging by surfing icons and local leaders.

Winners included Ocean, Ollie, and Tank in their respective divisions, with special nods for Best Kiss (Chunky) and Best Wipeout (Coco). Despite the heat, the event delivered cool waves and big smiles—all while raising awareness and funds for pet nonprofits. See all the contest results in the original sto.

🐦 Not Exactly A Pet….But…..A Sandhill Stroll to Remember

It’s not every day you spot one of North America’s most elegant bird species out for a family walk—but one lucky woman did just that, capturing a touching video of two adult Sandhill Cranes and their fuzzy little chick. The serene trio was seen calmly strutting through the morning sun, embodying effortless grace and contentment. Viewers were particularly taken with the young chick, who looked perfectly at ease under the watchful eyes of its feathered guardians.

Several commenters admitted they had never seen a Sandhill Crane in person, let alone a full-fledged family. While many expressed a desire to feed or play with the birds, TikTok user Jenn Truman gently reminded viewers that while beautiful, these birds can be aggressive and are best appreciated from a respectful distance.
