⭐ Gnomes, Speed Demons, Holly Hill Man Arrested

🧙 A Tiny Celebration with Big Heart

If you’ve ever driven by Riverside Drive in Holly Hill and spotted a whimsical congregation of gnomes, you’re not alone. The beloved Holly Hill Gnome Tree, started by Ginny Morris in 2003 with just three gnomes, has blossomed into a full-fledged tourist attraction with dozens of the pint-sized guardians.

This Saturday, June 21, the tree will host its third International Gnome Day Celebration from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Expect lighthearted festivities including gnome lore, books, merchandise, and music courtesy of the Holly Hill Historic Preservation Society. Visitors frequently leave notes at the site—some silly, others heartfelt—making the tree a charming blend of folklore and community connection.

Parking is available at Sunrise Park. Just follow the trail of pointy red hats.

🚔 Jail Time for Lead Feet? New Law Targets Speed Demons

Florida drivers, take note: Going over the speed limit might soon do more than just dent your wallet. Beginning July 1, a new law—The Dangerous Excessive Speeding Act—means that driving 100 mph or more, or 50 mph above the speed limit, could land you in jail for up to 30 days on a first offense. Repeat violations may result in longer sentences, higher fines, and even revoked licenses.

The change comes amid growing concern about street racing and reckless driving across Central Florida. A recent YouTube channel, “Speed Demon 407,” even featured motorcyclists reaching 150+ mph on public roads.

Lawmakers and law enforcement are hoping that these tougher penalties will slow down the need-for-speed culture and help make roads safer for everyone.

🕶️ Masked and Confused: Knife Sheath Toss Leads to Arrest

Late one night at the corner of Hand Avenue and South Orchard Street, a 45-year-old man from Holly Hill decided to launch a knife sheath at an unmarked patrol car in Ormond Beach—then fled through neighborhood yards. The man, dressed in all black and wearing a dark face mask in humid 79-degree weather, told officers he thought the vehicle made an “activated sound,” which the car was not equipped to do.

Police noted his strange attire and learned he was already on felony probation for written threats to kill. When asked about his outfit, he simply said he "does not like people knowing his identity."

The man was quickly caught and taken to jail. No one was injured, but the incident leaves many asking: What was he really hearing?

🐾 How to Tell If Your Pet Really Loves You
7 sweet signs from the heart of the pack

Image: PetHelpful

Does your furry friend really love you, or are they just in it for the kibble? According to expert vet Dr. Mark, love from a pet may not look exactly like human affection—but it’s real, and you can definitely spot the signs. While scientists have found a dopamine rush in dogs’ brains similar to the feeling of love, most of us rely on simple, observable behaviors to know when we’ve truly bonded with our pets. Here are seven ways your pet may be saying “I love you” without ever speaking a word:

1. 👀 They Stare Into Your Eyes
Deep eye contact isn’t something most animals do—unless they trust you completely. When your dog locks eyes with you, it triggers a surge of oxytocin (a.k.a. the “love hormone”) in both of you.

2. 🚪 They Wait by the Door
That loyal vigil by the door isn’t about food—it’s anticipation of you. The excitement of your arrival actually gives your dog a happy hormonal boost.

3. 🐕 They Greet You Like a Rock Star
Tail wags, wiggles, even full-body sprints—they aren’t just happy to see you, they’re soothed by your presence, which helps lower their heart rate.

4. 🍽️ They Skip Meals When You’re Gone
Some dogs won’t eat or drink until their favorite human is nearby—a sign of emotional attachment that goes beyond instinct.

5. 👣 They Follow You Everywhere
Your dog may be shadowing you not for snacks, but because being near you lowers their stress hormones and calms their heart rate.

6. 💤 They Sleep Close to You
Snuggling up at bedtime is about safety and trust. Just like wolves, dogs sleep near those they consider part of their inner circle.

7. 🤗 They Seek You Out When Stressed
Whether it’s a stranger or thunderstorm, if your pup leans into you for comfort, it means they see you as their protector—or the one worth protecting.

So if your pet is doing any—or all—of these things, congratulations: You’re not just a pet parent. You’re family. 💕
