✈️ New Breeze Route Takes Off from Daytona
Breeze Airways is spreading its wings again—this time with a new nonstop route from Daytona Beach International Airport (DAB) to Akron-Canton, Ohio. Launched on September 3, the twice-weekly service will operate on Wednesdays and Sundays, with fares starting at just $54.
Local officials are calling it a win-win: Midwest travelers now have easier access to sunny Daytona, and local residents gain a convenient new getaway option. "It opens the door for Midwest travelers to discover Daytona Beach and an airport known for short lines, close parking, and a 'Seriously Nice' travel experience,” said Cyrus Callum, Volusia County’s director of Aviation & Economic Resources.
With the addition of Akron-Canton, Breeze now offers five nonstop destinations from Daytona Beach, joining Westchester County (NY), Hartford (CT), Raleigh-Durham (NC), and Providence (RI). CEO David Neeleman expressed gratitude for the warm reception Breeze has received since launching service in Daytona just a year ago.

🧼 Daytona Cracks Down on Vulgar Beachwear Displays
Sun, sand... and questionable slogans? Daytona Beach leaders are taking steps to keep the city’s beachfront storefronts family-friendly. After numerous complaints about vulgar or obscene T-shirts displayed in shop windows, city officials are preparing to take action.
Instead of pursuing hard-to-enforce obscenity laws, the city is opting for a softer touch: letters will be sent to businesses requesting they voluntarily avoid displaying offensive merchandise. A vote on this resolution was expected at the City Commission meeting on Wednesday.
The move aims to preserve Daytona's appeal to families and tourists alike—without sparking a legal tug-of-war. Whether business owners will comply remains to be seen, but the city’s message is clear: beachwear doesn’t have to push the envelope to make a statement.

🎓 Embry-Riddle at 100: Soaring Into Its Second Century
Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, affectionately known as the "Harvard of the Sky," is celebrating a milestone few institutions reach—its 100th anniversary. Born in a Cincinnati airfield in 1925, the university has grown from a barnstorming startup to a global powerhouse in aviation and aerospace education.
The school’s journey is as dramatic as any flight path. After a detour through Miami, Embry-Riddle found its permanent home in Daytona Beach in 1965, thanks to a grassroots effort known as "Operation Bootstrap." Since then, it has expanded to include a second campus in Arizona and a worldwide network of learners.
Today, with record enrollment, a thriving research park, and over $160 million in development investments, Embry-Riddle is flying higher than ever. Its graduates include pilots, engineers, entrepreneurs—and even a former U.S. president. As the university looks ahead to its March 2026 centennial celebration, one thing’s clear: the sky is not the limit.
