🔫 Big Legal Shift - Florida’s Open Carry Ban Ruled Unconstitutional
“As many of you may have heard, there has been a significant change to Florida’s open carry law.
Yesterday, the First District Court of Appeal, in McDaniels v. State, ruled the state’s Open Carry Ban (section 790.053) is unconstitutional. The court held that Florida’s open carry ban violates the Second Amendment right to carry arms openly for self-defense and cannot be reconciled with the Second Amendment guarantee.
Although this change is not yet final, it is not expected that the court will reverse its position. With that, I have instructed my deputies to no longer enforce or make any arrest under Section 790.053, Florida Statutes.
I would like you to be well informed about this change – what it means, what’s allowed and what remains prohibited.
It’s important to remember open carry is not absolute. This ruling does not prevent owners of private property or businesses from prohibiting open carry on their property. That could include businesses like grocery stores and other private establishments.
Additionally, this ruling does not change restricted areas to include courthouses, police stations/sheriff’s offices, polling places, government meetings (county council, city commission, school board) and other locations set out in Section 790.06(12)(a).
As your Sheriff, I ask you stay informed about this change or any new legislative developments, exercise sound judgment and be responsible.”

🦐 Riverfest Returns - Seafood, Sun & Scenic Views
Ormond Beach is gearing up for the beloved Riverfest Seafood Festival, taking place November 15-16 at Rockefeller Gardens and Fortunato Park. Set along the Halifax River, this free, family-friendly event is a community favorite—and this year promises even more flavor and fun.
Expect delicious dishes from local vendors (think crab cakes and fish tacos), live music all weekend, and an artisan marketplace with handmade treasures. Little ones will love the bounce houses, face painting, and petting zoo. Sports fans? Don’t worry—the beer garden will have TVs tuned into the big games. And for a unique twist, hop aboard the free water taxi for a scenic ride across the river.
It’s a fall weekend filled with food, fun, and waterfront charm. Mark your calendar and bring your appetite. Vendor applications are available at the Ormond Mainstreet website.

🚒 Changing of the Guard - OBFD Promotes Two New Battalion Chiefs
The Ormond Beach Fire Department is ushering in new leadership while honoring decades of service. After four longtime firefighters retired—bringing nearly a century of experience with them—OBFD promoted Joe Dupree and Jeremiah Ingraham to the rank of battalion chief.
Dupree now leads B shift operations, while Ingraham takes on a unique Monday-to-Friday role focused on administration and departmental coordination. The department also welcomed six new recruits and emphasized plans for expansion to meet the city’s growing needs.
With more residents and increasing emergency calls, the OBFD plans to improve training and possibly build a new station and emergency operations center on the city’s west side. The mission remains strong: deliver top-tier emergency response and care while growing to meet future demands.

🛍️ Ormond Collective Brings Artisan Energy Downtown
Downtown Ormond Beach just got a whole lot more creative. On September 13, Ormond Collective opens its doors at 58 W. Granada Blvd., offering a permanent home for around 30 local vendors. Think handmade art, vintage clothing, vinyl records, and even wine—all under one stylish roof.
The brainchild of Rayna and Sam Dunlop (of Fern & Fable fame), this boutique-style market is more than just retail—it’s a community hub. Built on strong local relationships, Ormond Collective is already at capacity, proving the downtown area is thriving.
Vendors include Spinning Records, Beach + Vine, and Rock Paper Supply, among others. The Collective will be open Wednesdays through Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Stop in, shop small, and soak in the community vibes.
