🌊 Brower Talks Flooding at Upcoming Town Hall
Volusia County Chair Jeff Brower is opening the floor to residents at a town hall on Tuesday, September 24, to discuss a pressing issue—neighborhood flooding. The meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. at the Port Orange Regional Library and is set to be an open forum for residents to share concerns, ask questions, and learn about ongoing mitigation efforts.
This is more than just a meet-and-greet. It's a chance for residents to directly influence local decision-making on a recurring problem that many neighborhoods across Volusia County face, particularly during heavy storms. Chair Brower is encouraging all residents to attend and participate—or even send in their questions ahead of time via email to [email protected].
Whether you're knee-deep in stormwater each season or just want to be informed, this is a chance to have your voice heard on solutions moving forward.

🕯️ Unattended Candles Spark House Fire in Ormond Beach
A house fire on Aldenham Lane in Plantation Bay had the Ormond Beach Fire Department springing into action at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 17. The cause? Unattended candles left burning, proving once again that even small flames can lead to big problems.
Thankfully, no injuries were reported—neither people nor pets were harmed—and the fire was swiftly contained to the kitchen area. Although the home suffered smoke damage, the OBFD's quick response prevented more extensive loss.
It’s a timely reminder to blow out candles when leaving a room, especially as the days get shorter and candles become more popular for ambiance and seasonal decor. Firefighters applauded the swift reporting and cooperation from residents, which helped keep the incident under control.
