🎭 Honduran Group Found in Abandoned Theater
A quiet night took a turn for the bizarre in Ormond Beach when police discovered five individuals—including a 20-year-old undocumented man from Honduras—hiding behind a curtain inside the town’s long-shuttered movie theater. Officers on patrol had noticed voices and an unsecured door, prompting a search of the building.
When officers entered, no one responded to verbal commands. A peek behind a theater curtain revealed the group, who claimed they entered through an open door just out of curiosity. No damage was found at the scene.
However, the incident turned more serious when police couldn’t initially identify the 20-year-old man, later determining he was undocumented. He now faces possible deportation.
Authorities didn’t specify if the building will face new security measures, but it serves as a reminder: abandoned doesn’t always mean empty.

🐾 Woof Gang Turns One (Again) Under New Leadership
In brighter local news, Woof Gang Bakery & Grooming is celebrating its first anniversary under the paw-sitively passionate leadership of Tonya Perry. The Ormond Beach and Daytona stores, nestled respectively in The Trails Shopping Center and off LPGA Boulevard, have been serving up treats and trims for furry friends since 2021—but Perry took the leash in November 2024.
After managing stores in Savannah, Georgia, Perry now owns both Florida locations and says it’s a dream come true. With gourmet pet treats, high-end toys, and spa-like grooming services, Woof Gang has quickly become a favorite among local dog lovers—though some still don’t know it’s there.
Perry, who has two pups of her own, plans to host a celebration this November to thank her loyal customers—and perhaps lure a few new ones sniffing around.

🎸 “My Chemical Romance” Set to Rock Rockville 2026
Get your eyeliner ready—emo icons My Chemical Romance are officially joining the 2026 Welcome to Rockville lineup in Daytona Beach. The four-day music festival will hit Daytona International Speedway from May 7 to May 10, and MCR’s headlining act is already causing waves among fans.
This will mark the band’s first performance in Daytona since their 2019 reunion. Though the exact date of their set hasn’t been announced, they’ll roll in fresh off the Asian leg of their "Long Live The Black Parade" tour.
In addition to Rockville, the band will play other major Danny Wimmer festivals, including Sonic Temple in Ohio and Louder Than Life in Kentucky. More acts will be revealed soon, but for now, the excitement for black parade jackets and sing-alongs is building fast.

🔫 How Do The Mentally Ill Obtain Firearms
A deeply troubling story is emerging in the wake of the murder of Edgewater police officer David Jewell. His killer, Eduardo Felipe Labrada Machado, reportedly suffered from mental illness—including hearing voices—yet legally purchased a gun at Buck’s Gun Rack in Daytona Beach.
Despite family claims about his mental state, Labrada Machada passed a background check and filled out ATF Form 4473, checking “no” to any history of mental illness. He then ambushed and killed Jewell at a Circle K.
Why was this legal? Florida law only flags individuals if they've been adjudicated as mentally unfit or court-committed to a facility. Many with mental health issues fall through the cracks.
Gun shop owners say they're often the last line of defense, with some refusing sales based on erratic behavior. But with no national registry and a form that relies on self-reporting, tragedies like this remain disturbingly possible.
This incident reignites urgent questions about firearm access and how to protect both rights and lives.
