🍽️ Billy’s Tap Room Readies for a Historic Reopening
One of Ormond Beach's most iconic restaurants is gearing up for a much-anticipated return. Billy’s Tap Room, a cornerstone of community memory since the 1920s, is set to reopen later this fall thanks to the vision and grit of developer Bill Jones. Known for his passion for restoring historic gems, Jones purchased the restaurant in 2022 and has spent three years meticulously breathing new life into the 100-year-old structure.
Jones faced a near-total demolition project, complete with iron pipes from the Jazz Age and cloth-insulated wiring that was more museum exhibit than utility. Still, he insisted on honoring the original aura. “It wouldn't have been Billy’s if we rebuilt it from scratch,” he said. Every detail—from redoing contractor work to bringing back the beloved relish tray—was aimed at rekindling memories for generations of locals.
The restaurant will be managed by Joe Oliva, who also runs Alexander’s nearby. Together with Jones, Oliva promises a menu full of nostalgic favorites and a vibe that channels Billy’s Prohibition-era charm.

👑 Paradise Pointe Celebrates Two Queens of Longevity
This week, Paradise Pointe Assisted Living pulled out all the stops to celebrate National Centenarian's Day—and two very special residents. Dorothy “Dee” Hardeman, 101, and Mary Wilson, 100, were crowned "Paradise Pointe Royalty for the Day," complete with a ceremony surrounded by loved ones and staff.
Dee, a nurse and veteran born in 1924, keeps her mind sharp and her opinions sharper—especially when advising nurses on their rounds. She attributes her longevity to staying busy and helping others. "Paradise Pointe is my family," she said. "I like to help my friends and neighbors as much as I can."
Mary, born in 1925 in Minnesota, brings sunshine and wisdom to everyone she meets. Known for her faith and a youthful sparkle, she recently fulfilled a birthday wish by hitting a golf ball in the courtyard. Her secret to happiness? “A good family and strong faith.”
Both women are a testament to resilience, joy, and the enduring power of connection.

🤖 Amazon’s Futuristic Fulfillment Center Debuts in Daytona
Daytona Beach just leveled up with the grand opening of Amazon’s newest high-tech marvel: a five-story, 2.43 million-square-foot robotics fulfillment center. Nicknamed "DAB2," this $393.9 million facility is designed to supercharge delivery speeds—and has already hired over 1,000 employees in time for the holiday rush.
While the building buzzes with blue drive units and robotic arms, General Manager Andrew Jaworski is quick to remind us: “It’s really about people.” From advanced safety features to scholarships through Amazon’s Career Choice program, employee well-being is front and center.
The facility can store over 30 million products and serves Central Florida and Georgia, aiming to fulfill orders in lightning-fast time. Behind the scenes, robots ferry yellow pods guided by floor stickers, and packages are SLAM’d (Scanned, Labeled, Applied, and Manifested) before zipping off to delivery trucks.
It’s a tech lover’s dream—but also a major boost for the local job market and economy.
