🩺 AdventHealth adds a pediatrician close to home

Families in Volusia County have one more pediatric option: Dr. Jenna C. Bonaccorso has joined AdventHealth Medical Group and will see patients at AdventHealth Daytona Beach and in Port Orange. A board‑certified pediatrician, Dr. Bonaccorso treats newborns through teens and offers well‑child visits, developmental screenings, breastfeeding support, adolescent care, urgent visits, and preventive medicine. She framed her practice around the familiar anxieties parents know well — fevers, coughs that won’t quit, and milestone check‑ins — saying she wants to “walk alongside families” through both celebrations and challenges and provide the same kind of care she’d want for her own family.

Dr. Bonaccorso earned her DO from the Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed pediatric residency training at Akron Children’s Hospital in Ohio. With her joining AdventHealth, local parents gain easier access to comprehensive primary pediatric care without long drives — a welcome convenience for busy families. Expect routine well checks, vaccine visits, and same‑day urgent appointments to be part of her clinic mix, helping keep everyday childhood care anchored in the community.

🌧️ Volusia keeps an eye on PTC Nine; beaches to see rougher conditions

Turning from pediatric checkups to weather prep: Volusia County officials are monitoring a system labeled AL94 while forecasting 1–2 inches of rain for Saturday and Sunday, with a localized 10% chance of up to 4 inches in spots. Current projections keep AL94 far enough offshore to avoid major inland impacts, and expected rainfall early next week drops to roughly 1–1.5 inches or less as the system passes. That said, ocean conditions are forecast to worsen: breaking waves of 7–9 feet, rising rip‑current risks, and increasing marine hazards mean beach driving may become restricted or close entirely in affected stretches.

Officials are advising residents in low‑lying coastal zones to take simple precautions — clear drainage culverts and street drains, clean gutters, and ensure downspouts direct water away from foundations — to reduce localized flooding risk from heavy rain. Because coastal systems can shift quickly, the county urges everyone to check official county channels (website, social media, the Volusia County Emergency Management app and Volusia Beaches app) for the latest advisories and closures. Bottom line: minimal inland impact likely, but the shoreline will feel the storm’s teeth more noticeably.

⚖️ Man charged after threatening Holly Hill commissioners over taxes

And finally, a far more serious note: Holly Hill police arrested 56‑year‑old Rodd Westpfahl after he posted a violent threat in a public Facebook group ahead of a Sept. 23 city commission meeting about a proposed property tax increase. Court records show Westpfahl allegedly wrote that if commissioners “jack up my property taxes like that. I will personally march down there and gun them all down.” He was charged with making written threats to kill or inflict bodily injury and was released on $50,000 bail after two days in custody. Police reported that when confronted at his Ferndale Street home, Westpfahl said he had been drinking when he made the comments.

The case underscores how heated local debates over taxes and government can sometimes flare into criminal threats; law enforcement and courts treat threats of violence as felonies rather than political rhetoric. The commission and community now face the dual task of continuing civic discussions about taxation while ensuring public officials and residents remain safe and civil. Social media moderating and responsible discourse remain important tools for preventing escalation.
