🌩️ Florida Says “No” to Cloud Seeding
Florida is drawing a firm line in the clouds. A new law—Senate Bill 56—has officially banned weather modification practices such as cloud seeding and geoengineering, citing public concern over environmental manipulation. State Attorney General James Uthmeier confirmed that enforcement is underway, with airports now required to report aircraft carrying weather-altering devices.
Violators can face felony charges, five years in prison, and fines up to $100,000. But here’s the twist: there’s no concrete evidence that weather modification was actually happening in Florida to begin with. Critics argue the law responds more to conspiracy than science, but supporters like Governor Ron DeSantis say it’s a “proactive safeguard.”
Cloud seeding, for those curious, involves dispersing substances like silver iodide into clouds to promote rainfall—not quite turning the sky into a sprinkler system, but close. Whether real threat or regulation overreach, one thing’s clear: Florida wants no part in playing Zeus.

🍂 Cooler Weather (Sort Of) on the Horizon for Daytona
Fall may be fashionably late in Daytona Beach, but it’s finally RSVPing to the weather forecast. While Wednesday’s highs hovered around 85°F, the National Weather Service says relief is in sight, with a cold front expected by the weekend.
Thursday through Saturday brings the chance for scattered showers and gusty winds, but daytime temperatures are forecast to dip into the 70s—finally giving Florida a touch of that elusive "fall feeling." Sunday promises the driest, coolest stretch the region has seen in weeks, with highs in the low 80s and overnight lows dropping into the 60s.
Still, don’t put those umbrellas away just yet. With a low-pressure system offshore, forecasters are keeping an eye on rip currents and beach conditions. But come Sunday, it’s pumpkin-spice season with low humidity and clearer skies.

🏭 Microflex Marks 50 Years of Made-in-Ormond Excellence
In a true local success story, Microflex is celebrating 50 years of innovation and industry in Ormond Beach. What started as a two-man operation in a Connecticut garage has grown into a leading manufacturer of metal expansion joints and hoses, now headquartered in a 120,000-square-foot facility on U.S. 1.
Founded by Joe and George Atanasoski—brothers who fled Yugoslavia and came to the U.S. with just $50—the company has been a staple of the community since relocating to Florida in 1980. Along the way, they’ve launched ASME-certified products and even branched into the automotive industry.
The anniversary isn’t just about longevity; it’s about loyalty. With several employees retiring after decades of service, Microflex remains a family-oriented company, both in leadership and culture. And don’t expect them to slow down anytime soon—the Atanasoskis are still active on the shop floor.
Here’s to the next 50.
