🍽Frida’s: Reborn as “Ceviche28” Opens on Granada Blvd.

A new addition to Ormond Beach’s dining scene, “Ceviche28” blends Peruvian and Mexican cuisines in a familiar setting on Granada Boulevard. Helmed by the father-and-son team Pedro and Peter Navarez, the restaurant occupies the former site of Frida’s — a space already familiar to local food enthusiasts. The duo is building on the success of their original Ceviche28 in Vero Beach and their continued work at Agave Fresh Mex nearby.

The menu showcases fresh ceviches, grilled meats, and house-crafted cocktails, with an emphasis on bold flavors and fusion dishes. Guests can enjoy their meals indoors or on the outdoor patio, designed for a relaxed yet upbeat experience. “Ceviche28” marks a new chapter for the Navarez family, combining their culinary roots with a modern twist tailored to local tastes. The restaurant is positioning itself as a go-to spot for Latin-inspired dining in Ormond Beach. See Business Spotlight below.

🎃 Pumpkin Power: Students Bring Fall Cheer to Ormond Beach

Over 700 pumpkins made their way to Grace Lutheran Church in Ormond Beach last weekend, and it took a whole lot of student muscle to get them unloaded. With the pumpkin truck arriving fashionably late (by two hours), students from Seabreeze High’s Allied Health Academy, St. Brendan’s Catholic School, and Embry-Riddle stuck around or circled back to help. Their reward? Community gratitude—and maybe a few pumpkins.

The annual pumpkin patch is just the beginning. Grace Lutheran is also hosting a Blessing of the Bikes on Oct. 18 (motorcycles, not mountain bikes), and a family-friendly fall festival on Oct. 25, complete with a bounce house and seasonal surprises.

If you're looking for that perfect fall photo op or a pumpkin spice vibe, Grace Lutheran’s got your back—and your gourds.

🌊 Double Red Alert: Rough Surf Closes Daytona-Area Beaches

The ocean is beautiful, but this week it’s best admired from a distance. Volusia County has raised double red flags—meaning the water is off-limits—thanks to powerful king tides, aggressive rip currents, and an unwelcome side of floating debris.

Beach walkovers have been damaged, signage is adrift, and even a local surf contest had to be postponed to Oct. 19. Despite warnings, a few brave surfers tried their luck, but officials continue urging everyone to stay dry and safe. Want up-to-date conditions? Download the Volusia Beaches app before heading to the sand.

🦎 Cold-Blooded Caper: Iguana Causes Commotion in Daytona

It’s not every day Daytona Beach Police have to chase down a lizard, but this week’s “suspect” had scales and a serious attitude. A large green iguana was retrieved after a spirited attempt to escape through a backyard gate—prompting officers to jokingly charge it with everything from disorderly conduct to resisting arrest.

While the incident brought a few laughs, there’s a serious side: green iguanas are an invasive species in Florida, known for damaging local ecosystems and private property. Originally stowaways from Central America, they’ve become surprisingly common.

This particular escape artist won’t face jail time, but it’s a scaly reminder to be alert—Florida’s wildlife is always full of surprises.

🚔 School Lockdown Follows Police Chase in Ormond Beach

An early-morning traffic stop turned into a high-alert situation in Ormond Beach when four people fled a vehicle near an elementary school on Oct. 8. Two individuals were eventually detained, one of them found on the school’s campus, prompting a temporary lockdown for Ormond Beach Elementary.

Police confirmed the detained individuals were in the U.S. without legal documentation, and ICE has issued detainers. The other two suspects remain at large, though officials believe they’ve left the area.

The school lockdown was precautionary, and thankfully no one was harmed. Still, it was a tense reminder of how quickly routine police work can intersect with local life—and school days.

Ceviche28” Brings Peruvian-Mexican Flair to Ormond Beach (Frida’s Re-born)  🌮🐟

Ormond Beach food lovers, get ready for something truly special! The father-and-son duo of Pedro and Peter Navarez have opened Ceviche28, a fresh new fusion concept blending the bold, colorful flavors of Peru and Mexico right in the heart of town.

If the name sounds familiar, that’s because Pedro made waves with his original Ceviche28 in Vero Beach — a hit known for its creative seafood and vibrant dishes. Now, he’s brought that same energy north to 195 W. Granada Blvd., in the former Frida’s location. And yes, Pedro was also the owner behind Frida’s and the still popular Agave Fresh Mex in Ormond Beach. This time, he and Peter are serving up something entirely new, while still honoring their family’s signature flair for great food and warm hospitality.

The menu at Ceviche28 is a celebration of fresh ingredients and bold combinations — from zesty ceviches to sizzling chicken and steak plates that burst with flavor. Pair your meal with a handcrafted cocktail from the full bar, and enjoy a perfect evening on the inviting outdoor patio.

Pedro and Peter invite all lovers of Mexican and Latin cuisine to stop by, say hello, and discover their unique spin on fusion dining. Whether you’re in the mood for a quick bite, a relaxed dinner, or a night out with friends, Ceviche28 is the place to be.

Come hungry, leave smiling — and see why everyone’s talking about Ormond’s newest taste sensation! And, show this Business Spotlight article to the server on your phone and receive 1 free House Margarita with your entre’ when 2 people are dining. Offer expires 10/31/25
