💼 The Legal Lifestyle: A New Look for the Law

Ormond Beach attorney Erum S. Kistemaker is proving that law and lifestyle can walk hand-in-hand—preferably in stylish heels. The managing attorney of Kistemaker Business Law Group has launched The Legal Lifestyle, a brand born out of her personal transformation and commitment to wellness, beauty, fashion, travel, and all-around self-care.

“A few years ago, I hit reset on my life,” Kistemaker shared. She now boasts a metabolic age 15 years younger than her actual age, but she emphasizes that the real win has been empowering other women to prioritize themselves.

The brand draws from her experience working with top lawyers and entrepreneurs, juggling busy schedules with the often elusive work-life balance. And while it’s inspired by her legal career, this space is far from exclusive to attorneys.

“The Legal Lifestyle” blends aspiration with accessibility—because even the busiest among us could use a reminder to breathe, travel, and maybe moisturize a little more.

🐾 Tragedy in Daytona: Woman Killed in Dog Attack

Daytona Beach was shaken last week when 38-year-old Monica Emerson was found dead in her home following a dog attack. According to the Daytona Beach Police Department, Emerson’s boyfriend discovered her unresponsive and covered in bite wounds, which authorities later confirmed were consistent with an attack by the four dogs in her home—one large adult male and three of its offspring.

Investigators believe Emerson may have suffered a medical episode that caused her to collapse before the attack occurred. The dogs are now in the custody of Volusia County Animal Control Services and are scheduled for euthanasia.

While disturbing, police noted this isn’t an isolated phenomenon—first responders have encountered similar cases where pets react aggressively or instinctually when owners become incapacitated or pass away.

Though no foul play is suspected, the incident is a grim reminder of the unpredictable nature of domesticated animals in high-stress situations. Emerson’s family has been notified, and an investigation into the exact sequence of events remains ongoing.

🔫 Open Carry at Publix? Florida's Gun Debate Comes to the Aisle

Grocery shopping just got a lot more complicated in Florida. After a recent court ruling overturned the state’s open-carry ban, Publix has joined the short list of stores now permitting shoppers to visibly carry firearms—sparking applause from Second Amendment advocates and unease from others.

While nearly 2.6 million Floridians already have concealed weapons permits, open carry represents a visible shift. Publix says enforcement decisions will rest with store managers, while chains like Walmart, Target, and Trader Joe’s continue to discourage or prohibit any gun presence.

Gun rights advocates argue the change reinforces constitutional freedoms, while critics like Tallahassee’s Brian Lupiani fear it creates new risks in crowded, public settings. “I just don’t want to get caught in the crossfire over the last jar of peanut butter,” he quipped.

Meanwhile, with Republican lawmakers showing little appetite to address concerns through new legislation, the debate is expected to play out in courtrooms and checkout lines across the state.

🛋️ Design Dreams Realized in Downtown Ormond

What began at a kitchen table is now a full-fledged design hub in the heart of Ormond Beach. Nouveau International Design, founded in 2017 by local duo Rita Narcisse and Edgar Taylor, has officially opened its new central location at 26 N. Beach St., Suite A—and the space is as creative as the visionaries behind it.

Though they nearly planted roots in Jacksonville, a timely phone call and a bit of serendipity convinced the couple that their hometown was the perfect fit. Their firm, which handles both residential and commercial projects, has grown to a staff of 11 and has been involved in standout builds like Ormond Renaissance Condominiums and Avanu on Flagler.

The new location doubles as a collaborative space for fellow designers and will soon house a podcast studio for their upcoming show “Sawdust and Sarcasm.” The couple’s mission is as much about design as it is about building community—both within Ormond and across the industry.

“We’re not forcing anything,” Narcisse said. “The downtown area really embraces the locals … they want to see them thrive.”

Ceviche28” Brings Peruvian-Mexican Flair to Ormond Beach (Frida’s Re-born)  🌮🐟

Ormond Beach food lovers, get ready for something truly special! The father-and-son duo of Pedro and Peter Navarez have opened Ceviche28, a fresh new fusion concept blending the bold, colorful flavors of Peru and Mexico right in the heart of town.

If the name sounds familiar, that’s because Pedro made waves with his original Ceviche28 in Vero Beach — a hit known for its creative seafood and vibrant dishes. Now, he’s brought that same energy north to 195 W. Granada Blvd., in the former Frida’s location. And yes, Pedro was also the owner behind Frida’s and the still popular Agave Fresh Mex in Ormond Beach. This time, he and Peter are serving up something entirely new, while still honoring their family’s signature flair for great food and warm hospitality.

The menu at Ceviche28 is a celebration of fresh ingredients and bold combinations — from zesty ceviches to sizzling chicken and steak plates that burst with flavor. Pair your meal with a handcrafted cocktail from the full bar, and enjoy a perfect evening on the inviting outdoor patio.

Pedro and Peter invite all lovers of Mexican and Latin cuisine to stop by, say hello, and discover their unique spin on fusion dining. Whether you’re in the mood for a quick bite, a relaxed dinner, or a night out with friends, Ceviche28 is the place to be.

Come hungry, leave smiling — and see why everyone’s talking about Ormond’s newest taste sensation! And, show this Business Spotlight article to the server on your phone and receive 1 free House Margarita with your entre’ when 2 people are dining. Offer expires 10/31/25
