🔫 Oops! Man Shoots Himself Retrieving Gun

A Deltona man learned the hard way that firearms and waistbands don't mix.

Ormond Beach police were called to the 800 block of Airport Road after a 38-year-old accidentally shot himself while pulling a gun from his waistband. When officers arrived, they found the man lying on the grass beside his friend's pickup truck. He’d managed to shoot himself in the right leg—and more specifically, the right testicle.

According to the police report, he even removed the bullet himself before being taken to the hospital as a trauma alert. His friend told police the man had asked to leave the gun in the truck, but apparently changed his mind. A loud bang later, and 911 was on the line.

Police interviewed the man at the hospital, where he confirmed the details. No word yet on if charges will be filed—or if belts might make a comeback in his wardrobe.

🛍️ Goodwill Gets a Glow-Up in Holly Hill

Just across the street from its current location, a massive new Goodwill is rising in Holly Hill.

Work is officially underway to transform a long-vacant Save-a-Lot grocery store into Volusia County’s biggest Goodwill thrift store yet. The new 30,800-square-foot space will more than triple the size of the existing store and bring a sleek, modern prototype format to the area.

Goodwill Industries of Central Florida plans to keep all current employees and add up to 60 new jobs. “We want [staff] to have a space that’s safe and inviting,” said marketing manager Karla Jimenez. Amenities like a kitchen-equipped break room and revamped parking lot aim to deliver just that.

With $2.2 million already spent on the building and another $6 million slated for renovations, this is a serious investment in secondhand success. The store is expected to open on November 1, 2026—just in time for thrifty holiday shopping.

🌊 Mystery in the Water-Body Found in Intracoastal

Authorities are investigating after a man’s body was pulled from the Intracoastal Waterway near the Orange Avenue Bridge in Daytona Beach.

Police responded to the scene around 11:37 a.m. on October 19 following a report of a man swimming after a boat. The caller soon lost sight of the man and alerted emergency services. Multiple agencies launched a search, which ended with the grim discovery of the man’s body submerged in the water.

So far, few details have been released. Police confirmed the death but haven’t shared the man’s identity or whether foul play is suspected.

The investigation remains active, and officials are urging anyone with information to come forward. For now, the community is left with more questions than answers.

Beachside Dog Grooming Reopens with a Fresh Look and a Beachside Flair

After more than a decade of keeping local pups polished and pampered in Ormond-By-The-Sea,, Beachside Dog Grooming has a brand-new home at 1468 Ocean Shore Boulevard. Owner Carolyn Hart, a professional groomer with more than 23 years of experience, says the move marks a fresh chapter for the beloved business — one that combines a brighter, more visible location with room to grow.

Hart began her grooming career over two decades ago, working for other salons before striking out on her own. “I groomed for about twelve years before opening my own shop,” she said. “It’s just something I’ve always loved — working with animals, making them look and feel their best.” For the last eleven years, she operated Beachside Dog Grooming in a tucked-away location that many customers had trouble finding. When that building was sold, Hart began searching immediately for a new spot — and the timing worked out perfectly.

Our Reception Area

The move wasn’t without hurdles. “The county had trouble figuring out how to permit the space,” Hart explained, noting that the previous tenant, Seadrift, had combined several units into one. “It delayed things for a couple of months, but we finally got through it.” Despite the setback, Hart was able to keep her entire team together — three groomers and a bather — and everyone is excited about the salon’s relaunch.

Bathing and Drying Station

The new shop offers expanded grooming space, fresh décor, and plenty of natural light. It also provides the visibility Hart had always wanted. “People used to say, ‘I drive by your old place all the time and never knew you were there,’” she said. “Now, they can’t miss us!”

Grooming Sadie

Looking ahead, Hart plans to expand Beachside Dog Grooming’s offerings with a small retail area and a fun new feature she calls the Tiki Treat Bar — a cheerful setup where customers can fill bags with an assortment of dog treats. The shop will also carry collars, leashes, food, bowls, and other pet essentials.

“It’s been a long road getting here,” Hart said with a smile, “but it feels great to be back — bigger, better, and ready to keep Ormond’s dogs looking fabulous on the beachside.”
