🌐 High-Speed Progress: Wire 3 Lights Up Volusia

After two years of installation work, Wire 3 has officially completed construction on its fiber internet infrastructure across six Volusia County communities — including Ormond Beach, Ormond-by-the-Sea, and Daytona Beach. The $50 million investment is now bringing lightning-fast internet (up to 10 Gbps!) to residents and businesses in Edgewater, Holly Hill, and New Smyrna Beach as well.

Wire 3 CEO Jai Ramachandran said the company is committed to building a “future-proof network” to serve modern digital needs. And they’re not done yet: expansion plans for Deltona and DeLand are already in motion, backed by an additional $60 million.

It looks like ultra-fast internet is here to stay — and it’s only getting faster.

👩‍💼 Cici Brown Named Most Influential Woman in Volusia-Flagler

Ormond Beach philanthropist Cici Brown received a well-deserved standing ovation as she was named the 2025 “Most Influential Woman in Business” at the Daytona Beach News-Journal’s 20th annual awards luncheon. Brown’s decades-long impact on the cultural, educational, and civic fabric of Volusia County — including a $150 million endowment to the Museum of Arts & Sciences — earned her the top honor.

The event also introduced the inaugural Gloria Max Legacy Award, recognizing community leadership and selfless service. Fittingly, Ormond’s Nancy Lohman and Forough Hosseini of ICI Homes were the first honorees. Lohman, whose husband Lowell passed away just hours before the event, was represented by her friend Susan Persis.

With more than 500 women honored over the past two decades, this year’s ceremony was a powerful reminder of the region’s extraordinary female leaders.

🚦 Nova Road Facelift: FDOT Plans $16.8M Upgrade

Big changes are coming to a busy stretch of Nova Road. The Florida Department of Transportation will hold an open house from 5:30–7 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 5 at The Casements to present plans for a $16.8 million improvement project that includes resurfacing nearly four miles of roadway between Flomich Street and U.S. 1.

Expect a new traffic signal at Old Kings Road, a directional median at Arroyo Parkway, upgraded pedestrian signals, and ADA-compliant curb ramps. Construction is set to begin in summer 2026. Can’t make it in person? You can also attend the open house virtually by registering here.

It’s a fresh route ahead — with smoother drives and safer crossings in the works.

🚸 Vaping in Grade School? Volusia Acts Fast with New Programs

Vaping among elementary students is no longer just a worry — it’s a reality. Volusia County Schools has caught 21 fourth and fifth graders with vapes this school year, prompting the launch of a new educational initiative tailored to younger students.

The Volusia Assistance and Prevention Education (VAPE) program teaches children about vape dangers, school rules, and healthy coping strategies. Only first-time offenders are eligible, and the program requires parental consent and a passing score to complete.

Meanwhile, the district has also rolled out a Threat and Wellness Program for students who’ve made school threats or exhibited concerning behaviors. Modules span from kindergarten to fifth grade and aim to build emotional regulation, accountability, and kindness.

These proactive programs signal a shift from punishment to prevention — and a commitment to shaping safer, healthier school environments.
