🎨 Local Artists Shine in ‘Innovations 2025’ at OMAM
Ormond Memorial Art Museum is bursting with creativity as it hosts Innovations 2025, the International Society of Experimental Artists’ (ISEA) 34th annual juried exhibition. Running through November 30, the exhibit showcases 96 boundary-pushing works from global experimental artists who are redefining what it means to make art.
From abstract to realistic, each piece represents innovation in approach, concept, or technique. Central Florida made a strong showing among this year’s award winners, with six local artists honored—two from Ormond Beach. Christine Peloquin of New Smyrna Beach earned a Juror Award for her introspective piece I Am at Peace, while Nancy McElroy of Ormond Beach received an Honorable Mention.
Juror Meghan Martin praised the entries for their diversity and imaginative spirit. “Each work presented elements of innovation, insight, and exploration,” she noted.
Visitors can catch the exhibit daily (except Sundays, which have afternoon hours), with donations accepted in lieu of admission. Veterans and museum members always get in free.

🏖️ Volusia County Tackles Coastal Protection in Public Meetings
From colorful canvases to coastal concerns, Volusia County leaders are taking proactive steps to preserve the region’s iconic beaches. The final in a trio of community meetings on coastal protection strategies wraps up next Thursday at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach. These sessions are part of a broader effort to gather feedback and present long-term shoreline solutions.
Funded by a $462,655 grant, the county’s coastal feasibility study is exploring options like seawalls, breakwaters, dune reinforcements, and beach nourishment. Coastal Director Jessica Fentress emphasized the urgency: the area lost over 6.6 million cubic yards of sand to recent storms, including Hurricanes Ian and Nicole, which devastated the coastline and disrupted tourism—a major economic driver responsible for over 31,000 local jobs.
The meetings, which are being recorded and posted on Volusia.org, aim to inform residents and invite input, which will remain open through the end of 2025. County leaders acknowledge the process will take time, but they’re focused on doing it right.
Thursday’s meeting is from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Ocean Center, located at 101 N. Atlantic Avenue in Daytona Beach.Thursday’s meeting is from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Ocean Center, located at 101 N. Atlantic Avenue in Daytona Beach.
