🏅 Farewell with a Key to the City

After 36 years of service, Kevin Gray—Ormond Beach’s Deputy Public Works Director—is hanging up his hard hat and heading into a well-earned retirement. The city honored Gray during a Nov. 4 City Commission meeting, recognizing a career that started humbly in field operations and rose through the ranks to leadership. Along the way, he became Ormond’s first recycling coordinator and spent the last five years overseeing stormwater management, fleet services, and more.

Mayor Jason Leslie read a proclamation detailing Gray’s contributions, and shared a laugh with the man of the hour, who was also presented with a ceremonial key to the city. Gray reflected on his decades with the city, admitting that what began as a stepping stone turned into a fulfilling career. “I guess I liked you all so much I just stayed,” he said.

Outside city work, Gray coached youth hockey and co-owned the local roller rink, Skate and Shake, which was sold in 2021.

🛒 Trader Joe’s Opens in Daytona Nov. 10

The wait is over: Trader Joe’s is officially opening its Daytona Beach location on Monday, Nov. 10, at Tomoka Town Center. According to employees, the doors open at 9 a.m. with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. While there’s no word on extravagant festivities, customers can expect a lively crowd and possible giveaways like reusable bags or candy.

Inside, the store promises an experience with international flair—think European layout and dishes like kibbeh—plus an 85% private label product lineup. And no, it’s not strictly a health food store. You’ll find nutritious options, yes, but also indulgent pastries and frozen favorites perfect for quick meals.

Trader Joe’s prides itself on value, steering away from artificial preservatives and keeping prices fair—even if it means pulling popular items. The new store's team has been praised as “phenomenal,” setting high expectations for customer service from day one.

Located at 1511 Cornerstone Blvd., the store’s hours weren’t confirmed at press time, but nearby locations typically run 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., daily.
