🧑‍💼 Workshop for Ormond Business Owners

Local business owners in Ormond Beach are invited to a new workshop event aimed at helping them scale and thrive in 2026. Business and marketing coach Stephanie Hines will lead the session on Wednesday, Nov. 19 from 1–4 p.m. at 31 Supper Club (31 W. Granada Blvd). Joining her will be Jason Leslie (Mayor of Ormond Beach) and Brian Rademacher (Economic Development Director).
The free workshop, titled “Scale & Thrive in 2026: Growth Strategies for Local Business Owners,” will blend insights from city leadership on small‑business support and upcoming economic initiatives, with practical marketing strategies — including the use of AI tools — to help local companies capture opportunities amid the region’s growth. In announcing the event, Hines said business owners often hear about development in Flagler and surrounding communities but don’t know how it translates into growth for their own companies; the workshop is designed to “connect those dots.”
Mayor Leslie noted that with Florida becoming a focal point for growth and opportunity — attracting families and new residents — it’s vital that local businesses are positioned to benefit.
Seating is limited. To register, visit https://www.eventbrite.com/e/scale-thrive-in-2026-growth-strategies-for-local-business-owners-tickets-1963474283437.

🏄 23rd Annual Tommy Tant Surf Classic Returns Nov. 14–16

The beloved community‑surfing event, the Tommy Tant Memorial Surf Classic, returns this year from Nov. 14 to 16, 2025, at the boardwalk in Flagler Beach. What began as a remembrance event for local surfer Tommy Tant (who passed unexpectedly in 1998) has grown into one of the East Coast’s longest‑running surf traditions.
The 2025 competition will feature 19 divisions for all ages and skill levels, including professional divisions competing for a $12,000 total prize purse. Beyond the surfing, the weekend offers a kickoff party on the evening of Friday Nov. 14 at Golden Lion Café with live and silent auctions (including prizes such as a surf getaway to Nicaragua, golf at Hammock Beach Resort, and a custom surfboard), followed by surfing on the pier south area during Saturday and Sunday. The event also includes an expanded raffle, kids’ craft area, and a memorial paddle‑out on Sunday afternoon to honour loved ones. Since its founding, the event has raised more than $200,000 for local scholarships, food banks, and the Marfan Foundation (supporting research into connective‑tissue disorders).

🌌 Dazzling Northern Lights and a Scrubbed Rocket Launch

A spectacular display of the northern lights across parts of the U.S. recently brought beauty to the sky — yet it also contributed to the postponement of a rocket launch by Blue Origin. Their New Glenn ESCAPADE mission, scheduled to launch around 10 a.m. Wednesday, was scrubbed five hours ahead of the window because of elevated solar activity. Research chemist Ken Kremer explained that a massive coronal‑mass ejection caused geomagnetic storms — the same phenomena that produce auroras — which can affect power stations, aircraft, satellites and even rocket electronics.
“This is a massive coronal mass ejection of charged particles heading toward Earth,” he noted, and added that launching under those conditions “we could lose the satellite, and we don’t want to do that.” It’s the second scrub for the mission (initially delayed Sunday due to Earth weather), and the team is also monitoring sea‑state conditions for booster recovery. For now, the rocket remains on the pad awaiting its next window; no new date has been announced.
