🎉 Riverfest Returns to Ormond Beach
Riverfest Seafood Festival is back this weekend, bringing two days of family-friendly fun to Ormond Beach’s scenic riverfront. Set for November 15–16 at Rockefeller Gardens and Fortunato Park, the festival is a community favorite celebrating coastal living, fresh seafood, and local culture.
Visitors can look forward to live music, a wide variety of food vendors featuring everything from shrimp to oysters, and a lively beer garden perfect for relaxing with a cold drink. Local artisans will showcase their creations, offering plenty of browsing and shopping opportunities.
Kids can jump into the action with bounce houses, face painting, pony rides, and creative craft stations, making it a great outing for all ages. With free admission and parking, Riverfest makes it easy to spend a beautiful fall weekend by the Halifax River enjoying great food, entertainment, and local charm.
🎓 FUTURES Launches Career Pathways for Students with Disabilities
A powerful new initiative is helping Volusia County students with disabilities explore career and education opportunities earlier than ever. Thanks to a statewide investment by The Able Trust, the FUTURES Foundation is expanding its FUTURES in Focus program, targeting students from eighth to twelfth grade.
This expansion builds on the success of Project SEARCH, which focuses on post-high school transitions for young adults with disabilities. Through a collaborative effort involving the Consortium of Florida Education Foundations and Volusia County Schools’ ESE Department, the FUTURES in Focus initiative offers more than just workshops. Students will gain firsthand experience through campus visits, workplace tours, and direct connections to services like the Florida Department of Educational Vocational Rehabilitation.
“Our vision is to connect and build capacity...by offering individualized support like career counseling, training, assistive technology, and job placement assistance,” the foundation stated.
Superintendent Carmen Balgobin summed it up best: “These experiences…are not just activities but life-changing moments.” It’s a bold step toward independence, confidence, and future success.

🌠 Leonid Meteor Shower Set to Light Up Florida Skies
If you’re a fan of shooting stars, now’s the time to look up. The Leonid meteor shower, peaking November 16–17, promises an impressive celestial show for Floridians—thanks to a dim crescent moon and a favorable weather forecast.
Caused by Earth’s passage through debris from comet 55P/Tempel-Tuttle, the Leonids are known more for their fiery brilliance than sheer volume. Under dark skies, viewers can expect to see anywhere from 3 to 15 meteors per hour, with occasional fireballs and long-tailed “Earth-grazers.”
To catch the best views, aim for dark sky locations like Gamble Rogers State Park. Leave city lights behind, bundle up, and lie flat with your feet facing east. Let your eyes adjust, and keep them peeled for cosmic streaks across the sky. Patience is key—meteors may take up to 30 minutes to appear, but the show lasts until dawn.
