🚗 Farewell, Gaslight: A Glowing Parade with a Dim Future

Last night, vintage engines roared (gently) to life as the 67th Annual Gaslight Parade lit up Ormond Beach—perhaps for the final time in its traditional route. Organized by the Volusia Region Antique Automobile Club of America, the parade featured pre-2000 vehicles including Jim Shulthels’s stunning 1939 Ford Phaeton. Crowds lined East Granada Boulevard and A1A as the nostalgic convoy rolled from The Casements to Harvard Drive under the stars.

But the beloved event’s future is in question. The city has announced plans to relocate the parade in 2026 to the Ormond Beach Sports Complex—an isolated venue with poorly lit, winding roads and high-speed access routes. For vehicles whose headlights were designed more to alert pedestrians than to illuminate roadways, the safety risks are glaring.

If this year marks the end of the Gaslight Parade as we know it, it certainly went out with the grace and charm of a bygone era. Fans of the parade need to reach out to city officials and register there displeasure at the questionable change of venue.

🛠️ Pier Pressure: Parks Edge Closer to Much-Needed Repairs

After a long wait, upgrades to two of Ormond Beach’s waterfront parks are finally on deck. At its Nov. 19 meeting, the City Commission approved a $172,000 design contract with Dredging and Marine Consultants for replacing the fishing piers at Fortunato and Riviera Parks. Riviera is also getting a new gazebo, all designed to match the original footprint but built to modern standards.

Both sites have been closed since Hurricane Milton left their structures unsafe. While the total project completion is still years away—estimated in 2027—the city’s greenlight for design marks a long-overdue step forward.

Still, not everyone is cheering. Deputy Mayor Lori Tolland called the process “frustrating,” a sentiment echoed by Commissioner Travis Sargent. With funding pulled from the community redevelopment area budget and a matching grant from the Florida Inland Navigation District, the city’s cost is expected to be about $129,000.

Construction hasn’t begun, but at least the blueprint is finally in motion.

✈️ JetBlue Touches Down Again in Daytona Beach

Travelers at Daytona Beach International Airport may have noticed a familiar logo lighting up the terminal—JetBlue is back. After a seven-year hiatus, the airline returns on Dec. 4, offering daily nonstop flights to New York City and Boston.

Excitement is building as signs and check-in counters gear up for the launch. The return is expected to boost both business and leisure travel to and from the “World’s Most Famous Beach.”

With flights connecting Daytona Beach directly to major metropolitan hubs once again, local tourism and travel convenience are poised for takeoff.
