🚔 FCSO Detective's Charges Dismissed Following Traffic Stop Incident
A Flagler County Sheriff's Office detective arrested last week for allegedly fleeing law enforcement will not face criminal charges, the State Attorney's Office announced Tuesday.
The Seventh Judicial Circuit State Attorney's office dismissed the case against Detective Ardit Coma, 28, who was arrested by Ormond Beach Police on December 4 after allegedly failing to stop for a traffic violation. OBPD reported that Coma was traveling more than 30 mph over the speed limit on North U.S. 1 and continued driving northbound, even navigating around stop sticks deployed by officers before a felony stop was conducted with assistance from Volusia Sheriff's Office deputies.
Sheriff Rick Staly expressed confidence in the criminal justice system while acknowledging that the case was dismissed based on evidence reviewed by the State Attorney's Office. He noted the lack of evidence showing Coma was intentionally attempting to flee while driving an agency vehicle. However, Staly emphasized that the facts clearly indicate Coma was speeding, and the detective will face an internal investigation to determine if agency policies were violated.
"I believe in accountability for everyone in our agency and transparency with our community," Staly stated, adding that Coma will likely be held to a higher standard than an average driver committing a traffic infraction. Coma, who was en route to work when arrested, has been reassigned to administrative non-law enforcement duties pending the investigation's completion.

🎄 Ormond Beach Officers Play Santa's Helpers at Annual Kid’s Shopping Spree
Ormond Beach Police officers traded their patrol duties for shopping cart duty over the weekend, guiding 34 local children through Walmart's aisles during the department's annual Shop with a Cop event.
The December 6 event transformed officers into holiday helpers as they assisted children in selecting gifts from their Christmas wish lists. Each participating child received $100 to spend in the store, with shopping carts festively decorated in tinsel adding to the celebratory atmosphere. The aisles filled with toys, stuffed animals, and dolls as the young shoppers made their selections with guidance from their assigned officers.
The children who participated were selected by local elementary schools, including Pine Trail Elementary, Ormond Beach Elementary, Tomoka Elementary, and Pathways Elementary. The annual event is held in partnership with Walmart and represents one of the many ways local law enforcement connects with the community during the holiday season.
The shopping spree provided not only gifts for the children but also an opportunity for positive interactions between young community members and the officers who serve them, creating lasting memories beyond the holiday season.

⚖️ NASCAR Faces Antitrust Battle That Could Reshape Stock Car Racing
Not heavily reported here, a federal antitrust lawsuit unfolding in Charlotte, North Carolina could fundamentally alter the landscape of stock car racing. 23XI Racing—co-owned by NBA legend Michael Jordan and driver Denny Hamlin—and Front Row Motorsports are challenging NASCAR's business practices, claiming the racing giant operates as an illegal monopoly.
The teams allege NASCAR uses charter agreements, track exclusivity clauses, and "take-it-or-leave-it" contracts to eliminate competition and suppress team revenues. An economist testified that NASCAR shorted the 36 chartered teams a combined $1.06 billion from 2021-2024, with the two plaintiff teams seeking $364.7 million in damages.
The stakes couldn't be higher for the sport. If the teams lose, they'll likely shut down or sell their assets within two years. But if NASCAR loses, a federal judge will impose antitrust remedies that could completely restructure how the sport operates—potentially opening the door to competing racing series, changing revenue distribution, and giving teams more control over their futures.
The trial, which began December 1 and is expected to run three weeks, has already featured testimony from Michael Jordan and will hear from NASCAR leadership and prominent team owners in the coming days.
