NOTICE: We wish all of you a Merry Christmas season. The ‘Pulse” will be on holiday hiatus for a few days and will see you back on Monday, December 29th. Enjoy the holidays!
🎄 Celebrating the Magic of Christmas 🎄
Christmas is a season filled with warmth, tradition, and togetherness — a time when communities slow down and reconnect with what matters most. From twinkling lights and decorated storefronts to the familiar sounds of holiday music drifting through the air, the Christmas season brings a sense of joy that’s hard to miss.
For many families, the holidays are anchored by cherished traditions: decorating the tree, exchanging gifts, sharing home-cooked meals, and gathering with loved ones near and far. Churches, neighborhoods, and local organizations often come alive with candlelight services, parades, toy drives, and festive events that reflect the true spirit of giving.
Christmas is also a season of reflection — a reminder to extend kindness, show gratitude, and lend a helping hand to those in need. Whether through volunteering, donating, or simply checking in on a neighbor, small acts of generosity can have a lasting impact.
As we celebrate Christmas, may the season bring peace, hope, and happiness to your home. Wherever and however you celebrate, we wish you a joyful holiday filled with meaningful moments and memories that carry into the new year.
🌊 A Pier into the Future
Orlando-based Gissy Family Investments, led by Westgate Resorts CEO Jim Gissy, has officially acquired the iconic Sunglow Pier in Daytona Beach Shores. But don’t worry — Crabby Joe’s Deck & Grill isn’t going anywhere. In fact, the seafood favorite is set to stay put as the new owners kick off a $1 million restoration effort, already underway with repairs to the pilings and decking.
Known for revitalizing Florida landmarks, Gissy’s team also owns the revamped Cocoa Beach Pier. The vision for Sunglow includes potential new retail and dining options, though nothing’s set in stone just yet. Meanwhile, the current Crabby Joe’s staff remains employed, and locals can expect enhancements without losing the nostalgic charm.
As plans develop toward 2026, the community and visitors can look forward to a refreshed — yet familiar — Sunglow experience. “We’re proud to preserve the pier’s legacy while breathing new life into it,” said Gissy.

🔥 House Fire Claims Life in Daytona Beach
Tragedy struck early Monday morning as a two-story home on Peninsula Drive in Daytona Beach was engulfed in flames, leaving one person dead. Firefighters responded shortly after midnight to find heavy smoke and fire damage. Despite their rapid efforts — bringing the blaze under control in just 24 minutes — a deceased victim was discovered on the second floor.
The Daytona Beach Fire Department noted that smoke alarms were not sounding when they arrived. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Florida Bureau of Fire, Arson and Explosives.
Authorities have yet to release the name of the victim or an incident report. The tragedy serves as a somber reminder of the importance of working smoke detectors and preparedness, especially during the winter months.

🍎 From Doubt to Dedication: Stacy Sampson's Journey
At just 8 years old, Stacy Sampson was told by a teacher that she’d never amount to anything. Now, after 26 years of shaping young minds, she’s been named Pathways Elementary’s Teacher of the Year. Talk about proving someone wrong.
A proud alumna of Spruce Creek High, Troy University, and Nova Southeastern, Sampson first taught special education and now leads a kindergarten classroom with passion and perseverance. Her favorite part of the job? Watching students light up when they finally "get it." It’s those little wins that keep her going.
Sampson credits her teaching inspiration to her mom, also an educator, and now pays it forward to the next generation. Off the clock, she enjoys reading, family time with her husband Wayne, and caring for her mother. And yes — she eventually showed her degrees to that doubting third-grade teacher. Closure never looked so classy.
Her advice to students is simple but powerful: “It might take you a little bit longer, but if you try and do your work, you will go far.”
